About IT Innovation 2011

What happens when you are given a chance to apply the academic knowledge to a real-life problem and develop a solution that can potentially make this world a better one to live in?

InnovateIT11 is a business IT competition organised by Singapore Management University, School of Information Systems. Running since 2006, it aims to promote the use of IT to improve business value in a fun and engaging manner. The motivation is to inspire students to come up with innovative ideas and in the process build interest in IT. The theme of innovateIT 2011 is Propelling social development and well being with IT. It is the platform where participants can use their creativity to propose IT solutions that adds value to societal well-being. Participants will be given a business case which describes social issue(s) that could be use IT solutions. This could be anything from creating social awareness, enhancing operational processes, mitigating problems to directly improving the lives of beneficiaries.

Competition Stages
TweakIT "Tweak IT" is a segment whereby changes will be made to the project requirements on the day of the competition itself and teams are expected to alter their proposals to the new requirements. This segment will test the teams ability to react to changes, reflecting the real world scenario of IT projects where change is the only constant. Preliminary Round This segment is where all teams would share their proposed solution. The teams will be given 8 minutes each to convince a panel of judges that their ideas are creative, feasible and innovative. 6 teams will be chosen for the final round after this segment. Depending on the timeslot, some teams will present during Batch 1 presentation slot while others will present during Batch 2 presentation slot. Finalist Round In our InnovateIT finale, the chosen 6 teams will be given the opportunity to pitch their ideas to all of the participants. During this session, they will showcase their finalised innovative business proposal. Eventually, the top 3 teams which propose the most innovative, suitable and feasible business-IT solution will be winners.
