Lesson Plan Objective: 101.1.1 Demonstrate control of basic Standard English usage, mechanics, spelling and sentence structure.

TLW identify nouns. TLW classify and make a list of nouns vs non-nouns Procedures: A. Introduction (set) TTW lead a song on nouns. After the class sings the song, TTW review what they have worked on previously in the week. Then TTW relate it to the skill they will learn that day, identifying nouns. B. Instruction: 1. TTW lead a song on nouns. 2. TTW ask the students what they have been working on that week in English. TTW then relate the previously learned skills of identifying nouns and action words to identifying and using nouns correctly. 3. TTW read A Chicken in the City noun book with the students pointing out nouns. 4. TTW ask the students how to identify a noun (person place, thing). C. Guided Practice: 1. After hearing responses from the class, the teacher will model how to sort noun cards that will be assigned to students. 2. TLW sort noun cards on a yes/no mat as a group. Show noun card, have student write noun under yes or no on mat. 3. TLW be asked to independently complete a noun practice sheet that has them identifying and classify nouns versus non-nouns individually. When they finish they can work in their enrichment worksheet and journal identifying and listing nouns around the room. As an extension, they can write four sentences in their red journal and circle the nouns in the sentence. D. Closure: TTW ask students how life would be different if we didnt have nouns. TTW will compliment the students on a job well done. TTW ask the students what they have learned that day. The students will be encouraged to show the teacher what they learned independently at their seats. TTW do one last example with the class. E. Independent Practice: The students will be asked to show their ability to identify and classify nouns and onnouns independently at their seats. The noun cards sort with the yes/no mats will provide the students a hands-on opportunity to practice using nouns. The students will also be expected to classify and identify nouns on the practice page. There are

different levels of difficulty on the practice page to evaluate the students learning. After the students complete their assessment worksheet, the students will be asked to extend their thinking by making a list of nouns from around the room on their enrichment worksheet. While the students are working independently at their seats, the teacher will walk around the room and assess the students learning through observation.

F. Modifications: I will use the information provided by the noun pretest and reading ability to determine which noun cards to give each student. Using the information gained by the pre-assessment and the evaluation of the previous days work, I have determined which pictures the students will receive in the noun sort. The students who show the ability to successfully complete both group and independent practice will have the opportunity to extend their thinking with a journal response and their enrichment page. Advanced students will write four sentences in their journal and identify the nouns by underlining them. G. Materials: Yes/no mat, markers, noun song, A Chicken in the City, verbs and nouns practice page, noun cards, independent practice page, enrichment page, pencils, and journals. H. Evaluation: TLW be evaluated through informal and formal evaluations. The students will be evaluated through class observations, oral review, and class work. The students are expected to participate in instruction and practice work. Weekly unit tests will be given as a continuing assessment. I. Enrichment: When the students finish their noun assessment, they will have the opportunity to complete their noun enrichment page. The students will also have the opportunity to work in their journals, when they finish their seatwork. This will provide an opportunity to extend their thinking and incorporate writing. It offers an opportunity for higher order thinking and enrichment. J. Reteaching: Early bird work provides an opportunity to review and practice previously taught material in the morning. The review session before the unit assessment also provides a review of the material. We also have games in the room that build on skills and add enrichment for students. Journal writing and Daily Fix It problems provide an opportunity for enrichment and review. K. Supplemental Activities

The students have access to a puzzles and games enrichment basket. In the puzzles and games basket the students have the opportunity to work on file folder games, practice puzzles, hot dots, and other self-checking activities. The students have Early Bird as a way to practice and build on skills they have learned. Daily Fix It problem provide an opportunity to build on skills learned and incorporate writing.
