Calson Ltd was incorporated in 1989 during the military government of General Ibrahim Babangida. After a final decision by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in the same year, a committee was set up to find a way of selling the extra crude production (over production of the OPEC quota) by the NNPC.
The committee decided that a company should be incorporated with the sole purpose of selling this commodity and this is how Calson Ltd came into existence. The company is headed by a Managing Director who is directly under the guidance and supervision of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. Though independent, the company has been a success story as it has executed quite a number of Sale and Purchase Agreements of 19-21 years life span to within and outside Africa markets for all the numerous crude types. The company has also made quite some headway in spot deliveries.
