Yoe Discussion Module 15 Discuss the article posted in Module 15. What are your take-aways? concerns? light-bulb moments? challenges? Respond to one classmate's post. Web 2.0 tools with enhance lifelong learning by offering content which can be inducted, deducted and applied in the style in which a learner best learns. Besides offering the basic auditory, visual and kinesthetic characteristics necessary to excite the learner, it also offers enhanced variety in the efforts to engage the learner, allow for discovery of information that is most intriguing in the content and create a increased desire to delve deeper into the material. Lifelong learning is critical and is recently becoming emphasized as a critical educational goal. No more should educators expect rote memory of facts that require little more than short-term memory efforts and rarely stick. It is imperative, and has been for years that teachers offer 21st century learning which promotes individuals which are prepared for the ever evolving technology-based world they will live in. Web 2.0 technologies should be incorporated at an early age so that growth in control of learning, selecting of learning strategies, self-assessment and adjustment (Article, p.4) become as ubiquitous as daily routine. Web 2.0 tools allow for connection. Be is social or educational. No longer is the professional cubical-based. Now, businesses design projects based on the connectedness of a global thinker situated in all parts of the world. Successes begin with instilling in an individual the desire to think outside the box and desire broad-based learning that is shared, blogged, twittered, uploaded, downloaded, viewed, evaluated, and constantly evolving. Web 2.0 allows for empowerment. Individuals are allowed access to instant answers and have to opportunity to gain access to those answers in a way that is most appealing to their learning nature. Then allow for more discoveries that are based on what others are sharing about the content. Use of web 2.0 should have students relating learning to their personal needs, place them in more decision-making roles, allow them to solve problems, and accomplish real tasks. (Article, p.14)

It can be as complicated sharing the intricate workings of the human ear to sharing a recipe for chicken and dumplings on Facebook. The challenge..getting educators to buy into 21st century learning. Bottom Line. Response to Marions Post A challenge would definitely be with an individual that needed quiet time to process thought and generate ideas. Indeed, some individuals do not have the same responses in quick-time as they would with more time to process. I know I dont. Module 14 Discussion In your post include the following information: #1 - the instructional strategy you chose *visual, auditory, (Demonstrations/ Presentations,) manipulative (Kinesthetic) #2 - the media format you think is most appropriate Teacher created PowerPoint with Sound, experiments, online games/ print out activities #3 - justification for your decision in #2 based on the media selection resources The teacher created PowerPoint with weather sounds will be very effective for the auditory and visual learner. Spanish Words may be easily inserted for the Spanish speaking students. The students will be given web-printed materials with pictures associated with weather that will occur on the PowerPoint. The teacher will ask the students to place a circle around the picture associated with the slide she is presenting. ie: draw a blue circle around the picture of the lightning or draw a yellow circle around the sun, etc. Grade level experiments associated with weather can be found at the site. Also, cross-curricular activities may be found there. In groups, for evaluation and social interaction, students may engage in the online games associated with the site. Students will be given other printed materials to view and explore and manipulate such as posters and flash cards. The NASA link below provides products in both English and Spanish. The teacher may join the weather wiz kids Facebook page and allow students to view updates and post findings. #4 - a link to the commercial media that you selected. http://spaceplace.nasa.gov/posters/en/ http://www.weatherwizkids.com/

Response to Vanessa Sharps Post Vanessa did a good job in reminding us that ELL students learn best with hands-on activities. Module 13 Discussion

Reflection: (based on resources available through the visual design module) Based on the results of your application of the Visual Design checklist (above) to your PBWorks portfolio, describe the changes you will make to your portfolio to improve its visual design. I am very right-brained and it is difficult to rein myself in to order and system. I tend to go overboard in most visual attempts. Based on the information provided us in the visual design module, I have to be careful in my attempts to keep the perceiver focused on information that is important and necessary. Therefore, my attempts at ensuring legibility, reducing effort and focusing attention, the goals of visual design, can tend to be less lively when it comes to pieces that I submit for evaluation. The visual elements such as alignment, shape and consistency are fairly uniform, however steadied by the challenge of not succumbing to overkill of a piece. Verbal elements size, lettering etc. were not consistent all the way through, but that was changed when up loaded to Scribd.com and looked better in the end as far as the perceiver would be concerned. Color combinations in my piece are consistent with good design and coordination. I do not feel that there are any distractions in this regard. Communication aspects are simple and straightforward. This allowed for proper transmission from the sender to decoding of the receiver. Simplicity and Unity are acceptable based on portfolio requirements. I did however; have to place an audio file, Introduction to Digital Story, prepared with the web 2.0 tool Audacity, on a separate page. Balance posed some problem as bringing in two videos did not always allow for simple spacing. Image content was good as use of fidelity, black-line drawing and graphics occurred. Changes I would make to my portfolio include more balance, and unity and more research into the problems that arose. I added comments on pages where problems arose and affected outcomes. Reflection on FRIT 7230: The class is amazing. The requirements are tough, therefore rendering the educational value very strong. I enjoyed all of the activities and am better prepared to assist educators with understanding tools and strategies associated with technology enhancement and 21st century learning environments. I
