POTENT HEADLINES

The 8th Annual Sources Party

The Sources Party is an event in which we collaborate with our local graduate chapter, Pi Alpha Lambda. This social function allows interaction between chapters on a personal level that would not normally exist. Also, the party is a generator of revenue for both chapters to start off the calendar year. With this bond in place and the success of the event growing steadily each year, the chapters are able to have a unified presence in the Bryan/ College Station community. The Sources falls on the same weekend as the Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference (SBSLC) and about 50% of the attendees are students from across the nation. This diverse crowd gives both chapters publicity on a greater scale. Pi Omicron Social Chairs Bros. Zachary Jackson and Byron Barber worked hard to make this event a success. The Sources helps fund the numerous programs and events Pi Omicron host throughout the semester.

Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant

The 24th Annual Miss Black & Gold Scholarship Pageant was held January 28, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in Rudder Theatre. This illustrious event was one of the best pageants we have had in years. Co-Chairs Bros. Daunte Cauley and Jed Egbuna worked endlessly to make sure it was a grand showcase of talent, beauty, and entertainment. The pageant winner Darien Hinson will be rewarded a $1,000 scholarship, while the first and second runners-up, Scarlett Kioutas and Raquel Davis will be rewarded a $500 and $300 scholarship respectfully.

Miss. Darien Hinson will go on to represent the Pi Omicron chapter as the 2012 Miss Black & Gold Queen and will compete at the state convention February 18th 2012 at the Omni Hotel in Katy. She is a freshman Biomedical Science major, with plans on attending medical school. Her goals in life are to provide help to underprivileged families.
