The committee is relocating the show to Alameda Park this year, to provide additional space for vendors and attendees. The facility will be transformed into a showcase of exhibitors geared to helping you welcome spring! Area businesses and organizations will be on hand to offer solutions and ideas for your home and business including home improvement and landscaping, financial planning, personal care, and more. aving been in Chamber of Commerce Management since 1987, I often ask myself Why a business does NOT belong to a Chamber of Commerce. Is it because they are NOT interested in increasing their bottom line through exposure to other businesses? Is it because they do NOT realize that in slim as well as heavy economic times, human nature is to do business with someone you know and trust? Do these businesses NOT realize that through networking and sponsorships and advertising, they will build upon this level of trust and therefore increase their business? Last year was a banner year for our Chamber in terms of attendance at events and in terms of new members that joined during 2011. We ended the year with 42 new businesses confirming their confidence in our organization and in the economic future of our area. Our Board of Directors has once again set forth an aggressive goal for new members for 2012, one that with your help, we can easily achieve before the first quarter of the year. No, I dont want you to call and solicit memberships for us (although anyone who wants to assist can and will be welcomed). What I would like you to do is spread the news about our Butler County Chamber of Commerce. The benefits you have received, both direct and indirect. The feeling of belonging that you are comfortable with and most importantly, the sense of making a REAL difference in Butler County in a multitude of ways. The place where we LIVE. As you read through this publication, I am sure you are proud of our cooperative events and activities. Leadership Butler County is the premier professional development training program in our area having the largest class ever in 2011, 23 currently in the program, and 21 registered for the Class of 2013. Butler County Young Professionals is 200 members strong, conducting a series of educational and social programs geared to the leaders of tomorrow. Our Friday Morning Coffee Club at the Fairfield Inn has proven that a free networking association can be just as effective as other similar pay-for-service brands. We have fine-tuned our educational efforts to include Sandler Sales workshops and a finely tuned Marcellus Shale Seminar Series. The place where we WORK. Our series of social networking and business activities has expanded with our current schedule. The best part and testimony to our success, aside from the business sponsorships, are the multitudes of business and community organizations that want to partner with us. They include the Community Development Corporation of Butler County, Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau, Zelienople / Harmony Area, Allegheny Valley, Armstrong County, Mercer County, Venango County, Clarion Area, Grove City, Pittsburgh Airport Area and Franklin Chambers of Commerce, Butler Human Resources Association, Slippery Rock Business Association, United Way of Butler County and Rotary Clubs of Butler. 2012 Beaver Butler Counties Heart Ball
he Butler County Symphony Association is hosting a Meet the Artist Wine & Cheese Reception Thursday, February 9, 2012, from 7:00 - 9:00 PM, at 114 Aubrey Drive, Butler, PA 16001. Special guest is tenor Michael Forest who is performing with the Orchestra at the February 11th concert. Mr. Forest is in his 17th season with The Metropolitan Opera of New York where he has sung over 250 performances in 19 roles. The Butler County Symphony Orchestra resumes the 63rd season at 7:30 pm on February 11th at the Butler Intermediate High School Auditorium, 551 Fairground Hill Road in Butler. The theme for the season is A Night Of, and this concert is focused on A Night of Song. Guest conductor is Bruce Lauffer. The featured soloist is Michael Forest who will enchant the audience with his beautiful vocal interpretations. The concert will open with an overture, Portsmouth Point, by William Walton. The composition depicts the animated life of the Portsmouth seaside, a piece full of energy and good humor that doesnt let up for a second. Bruce Lauffer is one of three guest conductors in this season. He is Music Director and Conductor of the McKeesport Symphony. In addition, Mr.Lauffer is the conductor of the Latshaw Pops Orchestra in Latshaw Productions - Fabulous Fifties, As Time Goes By, Puttin On The Ritz, American Journey, Steppin Out On Broadway, The Crooners and Their Music, Octoberfest, and The Christmas Spectacular. Maestro Lauffer has conducted for Latshaw Productions for the past six years and has conducted tours throughout the Eastern United States with these outstanding shows. he American Heart Association, Beaver and Butler division is excited to announce, Richard Begg, MD FACC, Heart & Vascular Center of Heritage Valley Health System and Dean Wolz, MD FACC, chief of Heart & Vascular Services, Butler Health System, will cochair the 2012 Beaver Butler Counties Heart Ball. These physicians have prescribed an outstanding Executive Leadership Committee tasked with helping them organize and raise more than $215,000 to support heart and stroke medical research, as well as public and professional education programs. Dr. Begg and I are honored to collaboratively serve as chairs for the 2012 Heart Ball, which is one of the areas most prestigious events that offer the opportunity to raise critical funds for groundbreaking research, Wolz said. Heart disease is the number one killer in this country and our Executive Leadership Team, Dr. Wolz and I are strongly committed to the efforts of the American Heart Association. We look forward to a great evening of fun and fundraising, added Begg. The theme, Dancing with the Docs sets the tone of this years Heart Ball with six local physicians competing in a choreographed ballroom-style dance contest. The black-tie affair is scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the Pittsburgh Marriot North in Cranberry Township. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception, lavish dinner, a silent and live auction, and dancing to the sounds of the Groove Doctors. Master of Ceremonies will be Bob Bruce, Integrity Wealth Consulting, LLC and former WPXI Anchor. Caring Tree Project

ommunity Care Connections, Inc. has announced the results from their annual Caring Tree project. Community Care Connections, Inc. provides programs and services for infants, children and adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Each year agency staff, Board members and community volunteers gather toys and other gifts, clothing and food to provide gifts and meals for their consumer families who are experiencing financial difficulty. Through Caring Tree donations, Christmas gifts were given to 54 children. Gifts of cookies and candy were provided for 8 individuals with disabilities, with 7 individuals also receiving food baskets as well. Penn United Technologies donated food baskets that were given to 5 families and 6 families received gifts for their children in addition to their food baskets. Community Care Connections, Inc. staff and Board members donated milk, cereal, eggs and butter that were given to 16 different families along with their gifts. New toys and food were donated by the Butler Armco Employees Association and distributed among the families. Marburger Dairy donated milk as well. The Board members and staff of Community Care Connections, Inc. wish to thank all who donated food, clothing toys and other gifts, wrapping paper, time and financial resources to make the Caring Tree project a success again in 2011.

A Natural Gas Trio of Seminars - Three Events for Three Different Audiences

n March 5, 6 and 7, 2012, the Butler County Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Butler County Community College and Penn State Extension to offer a series of seminars designed to educate, inform and connect. We hope to answer many of the questions surrounding Marcellus Shale issues and connect resources, which will provide opportunities in Butler County. All three seminars will be held at Founders Hall on the campus of Butler County Community College. On Monday, March 5, 2012, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., we invite landowners to join us for Marcellus Shale updated overview and information session. The evening will begin with a summary (Marcellus Shale 201). Penn State University experts will then provide legal, environmental and financial information. The formal program will conclude with property law and leasing. Attendees will have the opportunity to present their questions and concerns to the panel, and will receive helpful information including a reference guide. The dinner meeting will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will touch upon Marcellus Shale updated current information as well as issues pertinent to government officials. Beginning with legality including ordinances, this evening session will touch upon the specifics that municipal officials are concerned with. Leadership Butler County Class of 2011 has once again scheduled their second annual 2012 Groundhog Plunge for Saturday, February 11th! At Moraine State Park South Shore. Registration will be from 9 am 11 am and the actual plunge will be at 11:30. Last year close to 50 plungers entered the icy waters and 200 spectators attended the event, which was held to raise funds for the Butler County Children and Youth Services Duffle Bag project. Special thanks are extended once again to Moraine State Park. The minimum donation this year is $30.00 per plunger and additional activities will take place during the event. am honored to be the new Main Street Manager for Butler Downtown. As many of you know, Becky Smith was a dear friend of mine. We worked closely together over the past few years on Promotions for Butler Downtown. It is now my privilege to take on the challenge of Main Street Manager and to continue the many projects that Becky started. I still have much to learn, but I am eager to do so. I am optimistic about the future of Butler Downtown. I have a lot of confidence in our Executive Committee. President Jonathan Dreher, 1st Vice President Tom Panei, and 2nd Vice President Bob Dandoy are charismatic individuals, full of wonderful ideas. Our committee chairs, board members, and volunteers are stellar, upstanding people. Finally, the Special Gifts Campaign is off to a great start, but we have only just begun to ask for financial support. (I hope you will consider pledging in the future.) I am also incredibly excited! All four of the Butler Downtown committees have very clear and achievable goals for 2012. We have developed some great partnerships with other organizations and businesses both in and around the City. I have had numerous people reach out to me about wanting to help our organization in a variety of ways. Thank you for making me feel so welcomed into my new role. If we have not yet met, I am sure we will soon. See you downtown!

he Butler County Chamber of Commerce and Sandler Partner, Jen Whitmoyer, are pleased to bring you a new series of informative workshops in 2012 covering communication, management, sales, first impressions, accountability, body language and much more, thanks to the sponsorship of NexTier Bank and C. W. Howard Insurance. The Butler Chamber recognizes the importance of providing ongoing resources for members to not only sharpen their skill sets, but provide training that is motivating, giving the boost needed to grow and increase business. Together we have created workshops around topics that owners, managers, sole proprietors, directors, sales professionals, and customer service specialists have requested. The first workshop on First Impressions builds on the 3 elements of communication: small talk, how to gain trust, and personal presence. Another workshop covers how to effectively communicate with different personalities. Participants learn about their specific characteristics and personalities, and learn how to recognize specific personality traits in others. This information helps tremendously when managing a team, selling to a new prospect, understanding clients, and hiring the right person. The focus of the workshops then shifts to techniques of creating systems to close more business, control the sales call without looking salesy or pushy, stop the unpaid consulting and price cutting, and getting in front of the right prospects. Jen also created a workshop geared toward the CEO, President and Owners that deal with managing their people, hiring the right people, on boarding them into the company, creating systems for accountability, motivation, and finally a system for replacing themselves. What if as an Owner, CEO or President of a company, you had to take a month off, would the company run smoothly? Do you have systems in place to ensure people would know what to do without asking? SCORE Counselors to Americas Small Businesses

CORE is a nationwide, non-profit organization founded in 1964. Its membership consists primarily of retired executives and business owners and its primary objectives are to provide free mentoring and basic training to start-up and small businesses. The Pittsburgh Chapter of SCORE was founded in 1967 as Chapter number 7. SCORE Pittsburgh covers Armstrong, Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Washington counties. In Butler, a SCORE counselor meets with clients once a month, usually on the 3rd Monday of the month. Additionally, SCORE conducts basic business workshops in Pittsburgh for a nominal fee. SCORE counselors work with Chambers of Commerce, libraries, associations and other organizations to provide specialized workshops and round table discussions on various business topics. SCORE is also constantly recruiting new members with appropriate business experience and an interest in helping start-up and small businesses.
