Shuv Prasanna Born in 1947 in Kolkata, Shuvaprasanna graduated from the College of Art, Kolkata.

His career spanning over three decades includes his varied work as a graphic artist,painter and educattor besides his contribution as the founding trustee oh the College of Visual Arts and Arts Acre Artists studio as well as a writer. Trained as a graphic artist,his earlier works also included a series of drawing. He later took to painting and his subject matter centered on urban life as the reflected on the people and their struggles in his native city. His Krishnas,Radhas and Ganeshas are rendered in vibrant hues of blues, yellows and oranges, highlighting the change in his colour palette.He lives and works in Kolkata.

Jamini Roy

Jamini Roy Brief Bio Born in 1887 in a small village in Bankura district, West Bengal, Jamini Roy joined the Government School of Art, Kolkata in 1903. He began his career by painting in the Post-Impressionist genre of landscapes and portraits, very much in keeping with his training in a British academic system. Yet, by 1925, Roy had begun experimenting along the lines of popular bazaar paintings sold outside the Kalighat temple in Kolkata. By the early 1930s, Roy made a complete switch to indigenous materials to paint on woven mats, cloth and wood coated with lime. The inspiration for painting on woven mats was the textures he found in Byzantine art, which he had seen in color photographs. It occurred to him that painting on a woven mat might make for an interesting mosaic-like surface. Roy's rejection of the then modern style of painting and his foray into the realm of Bengali folk paintings marked a new beginning in the history of Indian modern art. The mother and child, Radha, and animals were painted in simple two-dimensional forms, with flat color application and an emphasis on the lines. The main subjects were often enclosed within decorative borders with motifs in the background. The figure of the Christ was also a subject that Roy often painted. Roy held several one-man exhibitions and numerous group shows. His works can be found in several private and public collections, institutions and museums all over the world, including the Lalit Kala Academy in Delhi and museums in Germany and the United States of America. Jogen Chowdhury Jogen Chowdhury is known for his uncanny ability to merge traditional imagery with the influences of contemporary art, in a skillful blend of an urbane selfunderstanding in a highly focused Bengali imprint. His earlier works show a consideration to figuration that flows through to his current pieces. Chowdhury insists on maintaining the necessity of a uniquely Indian approach to art, and believes that Indian contemporary art must have an originality , and not give way to imitation of the west. Jogen Chowdhury is known for his ability to successfully marry traditional imagery with the zeitgeist of contemporary painting, in a skillful blend of an urbane self-awareness and a highly localized Bengali influence. His early works show an attention to figuration that carries through in his current pieces. Chowdhury describes his later works as "now more personalized and subtle". "My background is relevant," he remarks in an interview, explaining that his life in Calcutta was "quite disturbed with political movements This has a definite influence on my worked like the Ganesha period. It is an effect enhanced in Chowdhury's more recent works, which, increasingly, crop the central image. Chowdhury explains that "The purpose is to hide some parts. The moment I show the entire figure, the

interest in the details would be lost Earlier on the figures were observed in their natural bearings which came through expressionistic stylization and the weight of reality was greater There is an effect of distancing today." Thota Vaikuntam
T. Vaikuntam hails from Andhra Pradesh, in South India, and draws a lot of inspiration for his work from the rural areas of the state. The men and women of his village have often been depicted in his work. Women, in particular, are frequent subjects for his works. The love for this subject can be traced back to his childhood, when he used to be fascinated by the impersonations of women characters by the male artists of the theatre groups that traveled to, and performed in his village. Vaikuntam was born in Boorugupally, in Andhra Pradesh. He studied at the College of Fine Arts, Hyderabad and at the M. S. University in Baroda where he worked under the guidance of artist K.G. Subramanyan. In a career that has spanned nearly 30 years, he has won several awards. His paintings are a part of several renowned collections and his works have been exhibited widely. Over the past five years, exhibitions of his works have been held in New York, London and Birmingham. He lives and works in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. T.Vaikuntham is truly inspired by the women of Telengana, Andhra Pradesh. Born in Andhra Prudish and studied in College of Fine Arts & Architecture Hydria. He received the National Award in 1993. His works can be found in private collections and museums in ndia and abroad including Masanori Fukuoka & Genera Museum, Japan.

Indian Mythology and folk have for long have been two armaments of the Indian artist, enabling him to work up a trajectory of visual impressions. Oscillating between varied hues of simple pleasure and deep thinking, their complex and vital role has never ceased to draw wide ranging patterns that determine the native psyche of the Indian artist That sets him apart as indigenous. The land and its people have always been B. A. Reddys muses Traversing decades with his themes of subaltern concerns of pathos, struggle and human dignity, B. A. Reddy steadily has been unclouding his trade mark monochromes and heart rendering themes to uncover the more vibrant and pulsating side of his land and its people. Today he transposes the same concerns paraphrasing them with a difference rediscovering the mundane to bestow upon it the status of the exotic and showcase it with distinctive simplicity.
Born in the family of peasants in 1940 at Pamarru, Krishna District. Obtained Diploma in Fine Arts from Government of A.P. and graduated in English literature from Agra University. Worked as an Art Teacher from 1958 to 2000 in State and Central Government School.

Experimented in Painting and Printmaking. Received Awards from Kalidas Samaroh, Ujjaini, Dasara Exhibition, Mysore, GDDM Association Berhampur, Chitrakala Parishad, Bangalore, Indian Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar, Nashik Kala Niketan, Mahakoshal Kala Parishad, Raipur, Hyderabad Art Society, A.P. council of Artists; Bharat Kala Parishath, Andhra Pradesh Lalitkala Academy and from most of the Art Organisations of A.P. Stopped participation in competitive exhibitions in 1985. Received the Soviet land Nehru Award in 1984 along with Pandit Briju Maharaj and Ustad Bismalla Khan. Honoured with the National Award for Teachers, the C.C.R.T National Award for Teachers, the Balabandhu Title from A.P. Balala Academy, Pratibha Purashkar of the Telugu University, Varada Venkataratnam Memorial Award of the Rajahmundry Chitrakala Niketan, Andhrasri Award from Alluri Sitaramaraju Yuvajana Samithi, Rajahmundry and Sanskarp. Bharathi Puraskar of A.P. Chapter. He is the second Indian to receive the Coveted Sunny Medal ORDER OF SMILE from Poland first being Shri Shankar Pillai. The USSR Artists council, the world Art, Siovania, Childrens centers of Celji, Hungary, Macidonia, Finland & Skopje presented their Diplomas of Honour to him. The Ex-Libris, Slovakia honoured him with "Teacher of Great Success" Award. Completed an illustrated research thesis on Folk Art in A.P. with the Senior Fellowship given by the Department of Culture, Government of India, and the Telugu University published a monograph on his art He had his solo exhibitions eight times at Hyderabad and one at the AIFACS Galleries, New Delhi. His works are seen in the important museums in India and a few abroad.

JayasriBurman BriefBio The imagery in Jayasri Burman's work has a dream-like and lyrical quality with a unique sensitivity which, although inspired by the Indian folk element, retains a quality of refreshing candour and reflective honesty, that is as original as it is endearing. She manages very successfully to weave the decorative and design element of the folk idiom into the intricate patterns of her canvas, without losing the natural charm and naivete of her work, which is uniquely her own. Jayashree's closeness to Nature is also reflected her in works. She can reinterpret the lush green environs, the hybridized imagery of a woman who is more bird-like in her grace and form, the stagnant pools that bring out the flamed colours of "Basant" (spring), in her paintings. Jayasri's latest oeuvre reveals an unconscious suspended energy that can find its parallel in the environs of Santiniketan, where she studied. If she expressed a tranquil sanguine feel in the images she reflected two years ago, this time her vehicle of expression is the dance of colour. One can also find here, the selection of certain key colours - red, blue or the radiant saffron provides as a starting point and guide for content, colour and structure. The works are a commitment to an art that is derived from the experience of the landscape - it is more than a matter of seeing things afresh - it is the perception that is aware of the transience and mutability of landscape. She establishes an intimate space, like a secret garden, and invites the viewer to partake of it. Once you step into Jayasri's fictional world, you can look around and respond immediately to the unorthodox canons of beauty and partake of the choreography of Nature.

MaqboolFidaHussain BriefBio The name Maqbool Fida Husain has become almost synonymous with contemporary Indian art, and deservedly so, for no single artist has popularised Indian art, within the country or internationally, as Husain has done. His endless quest for his cultural roots and a fearlessly open-minded willingness to absorb diverse influences has made M. F. Husain one of the most recognizable figures of contemporary Indian art. Husain began his career by painting billboards for feature films and making furniture designs and toys, to learn a living. Husain was born in 1915 in Pandharpur, Maharashtra. A self-taught artist, he came to Mumbai in 1937, determined to become a painter. In 1948, he was invited by F.N. Souza to join the Progressive Artist's Group, a group formed to explore a new idiom for Indian art. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan awards, both prestigious civilian awards.

Balaiah Y Collections

Yasala Balaiah, born in 1940 hails from Siddipet of Medak District. In his paintings the rural people of Telengana appear in brilliant adornments surrounded by trees, cattles and at times within interiors suggested by simple lines that defines posts and arches. Women with elaborate hairdos amidst festivities, turmeric smeared village people; bullock carts heards of goats, girls

carrying Batkamma. A few of his paintings are his own composition of Krishnas childhood. Balaiah is known for his works in Batik, a process of image making by resist dying of cloth, which he learned from Kappu Rajaiah an exponent of the medium. His paintings on canvas and paper at times are treated with textures that recall the crack like textures of the Batik. The dark skinned people with defined features are vibrant and evoke representation of Telenganas people that popularly feature in works of the region. Balaiah holds a degree of M.A and Higher Art in drawing after he had his first work experience as a school teacher in Sivannaguda village near sanga Reddy. He had his first exhibition of abstract works in the year 1960 at the Hyderabad Art Society. He participated in artist camps held at Lepakshi, Konark, Manipal, and Kalabhavan .His works are in the collection of Salar Jung Museum, Andhra Pradesh State Museum, Central Lalitkala Academy and Los Angeles Museum.
