DEVOTIONS

Day 1 Title: HUMILITY Objectives: To know the importance of humility. To remind students how humility affects our relationship to God and others To prevent future conflicts between students. To inspire student in rendering effective care to their clients. To establish rapport, trust and respect among subordinates Matthew 18:1-4 At the time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, Who is the kingdom of heaven?. He called a little child and had him stand among them. And He said, I tell you the truth, unless you change and become little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore who ever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Moral of the Story: We all want power and control. Few people would accept the idea that self control and personal power could be found in humility. If you truly humble, you submit these things to our Saviors call and influence upon your life. When you have true humility, it means your heart is Christ controlled. When you have true humility, you do not

pretend to be someone you are not. You have the freedom to always be just yourself, the person God made and loves dearly. Humility produces in you a quietness and peace because you are not striving to be someone you are not. Source: The Bible, New Testament Day 2 Title: TEAMWORK (Basketball Devotional Handbook ) Objective: To give team participants a sense of purpose and the opportunity to work with other people in a fulfilling and meaningful way Game Plan That players will understand the benefits of teamwork and working together. Warm-Up Ask your players, "What does teamwork mean?" Give your players the dictionary's definition: Effort on the part of a group of persons acting together as a team working for a common cause or goal. Tip-Off

"There is no 'I' in teamwork." Time Out Ask your players what the above saying means. Slam Dunk The saying means that there should be no selfishness, or thinking only about what you want, if you are part of a team. Your goal should be to become the best player you can, and in this way, you will become a team member that is worth a lot. You should try to be a player who places other teammates before yourself, helps and listens to the Coach, and who says nice things to your fellow players, even when they make a mistake. You should do your best to win and lose as a team. Pass or Shoot Teamwork is a choice on the part of each of you, and only you can choose to be a good teammate. No team can win without teamwork, where each player plays their own position. You can be a real good player, but not be a good teammate. If you are a good player, let the way you play the game speak for itself. Don't tell players how good you are by bragging about yourself, or get on other players' when they make a mistake. Let others brag about you. In this way, others will like you and consider you a good teammate. The game is more fun when everyone does their part. Substitution

"If each part of the body were the same part, there would be no body. But truly God put the parts in the body as he wanted them. And so there are many parts, but only one body." (1 Corinthians 12:18-20) The Final Whistle Ask for any prayer needs and during prayer ask the Lord to help your players to practice teamwork. Ask that they would understand that even as God made body parts that have a different job, He has also made each of them different and special as a part of the team. MORAL OF THE STORY We can not try to accomplish things on our own. Working as a team brings so much more strength to the things we aim to achieve. While the men that first gathered, may not have been BFFs (best friends forever), their willingness to work side by side, on their own little part, made a huge impact towards the whole picture. While sometimes it seems easier to just do it all ourselves, working as a team can get so much more accomplished. Prayer:Lord, we often become so independent and want to fly solo. Help us to embrace people into the journey as we go and be willing to receive other peoples contributions. Amen. Day 3 Title: RESPECT Objectives: To treat others or patients with fair and respect.

To apply this learning regarding respect on their self and others Devotional Story/ Phrases 1 Peter 2:17 Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king. (NIV) Respect should be given to other people. If you were in an auto accident just before you had to be at a once in a lifetime event And the accident was clearly the fault of the other person. And both you and the other driver got out of your cars And you were really steamed And the other driver was 610 and weighed 400 pounds You might not let off some of that steam. Instead you might be respectful. MORAL OF THE STORY Treating others with respect is what we are called to do. People who dont treat other people with respect generally have problems and create problems. All people deserve to be treated with respect. "All people" includes our children, senior citizens, the sick and disabled, the homeless, the poor, the downtrodden, even the people we do not likeeveryone deserves to be treated with respect. Winning the respect of others is an activity that has to be done with intelligence, common sense, a quiet nature, and hard work. To gain someones respect we are to act and be the kind of person who others treat with admiration, approval, and reverence. Notice that the apostle

Paul connects a quiet, "mind your own business," hard working daily life with winning respect. When others do not respect us, it is possible that we are not doing what it takes to win respect. When others do not respect us, perhaps we need to do what Paul said to the Ephesians in 6:5. Perhaps we need to treat others with respect, with fear, with sincerity of heart, and do the will of God from our heart. Remember, in everything you do, do to others what you would have them do to you (Matthew 7:12) and to let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven (Matthew 5:16). Be blessed and encouraged in Jesus name. Source: The Bible, New Testament Day 4 Title: DISCIPLINE Objectives: To know the importance of discipline. To remind students how discipline will help them to be successful. To motivate students to change for the better. To inspire student in rendering effective care to their clients. 1Corinthians9:24-27 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to

obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight, not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest when I have preached to others, I myself should not become disqualified. (NKJV)

Day 5 Title: TIME MANAGEMENT Objective: To remind to us to spend our time on more important things and never waste of it

Run the Race "Why, oh why, did I ever want to run this race?" my husband muttered at about the 10-mile mark in the Honolulu marathon. He was hot, his feet hurt, and people all around him were dropping out of the race. The thing that kept him going was the thought of the "prize"his wife and kids waiting for him at the finish line, not to mention his lifelong goal of running a marathon. Keeping his eye on the prize is what motivated him to complete the race. MORAL OF THE STORY Having discipline helps you to reach your goals. As an athlete, you should have the discipline within yourself to make it to the finish line.and this discipline is called self-discipline. Discipline brought to us by others, for example as a student nurse there are times that you made a mistake and your C.I. will correct your mistake. He or she scolds you not to brag themselves but to discipline you and for you to remember the things he/ she want to imply. Intelligence bring you to success but it is your attitude that brings you there Source: The Bible, New Testament

Story: One day an expert in time management was speaking to a group of business students and, to drive home a point, used an illustration those students will never forget. As he stood in front of the group of highpowered overachievers he said, Okay, time for a quiz. A professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When class began, wordlessly he picked up a large empty jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks right to the top, rocks about 2" diameter. He then asked the students if the jar was full? They agreed that it was.So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them in to the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks. The students laughed. He asked his students again if the jar was full? They agreed that yes,it was.The professor then picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else."Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this is your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, your children -anything that is so important to you that if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed. The pebbles are the other things

in life that matter, but on a smaller scale. The pebbles represent things like your job, house, or car. The sand is everything else, the "small stuff." "If you put the sand or the pebbles into the jar first, there is no room for the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your energy and time on the small stuff, material things, you will never have room for the things that are truly most important. MORAL OF THE STORY: Pay attention to the things that are Important in your life and spend time on the Important Some of the Important's are: Spend time with your Family. Spend time with your People. Spend time for your Customers. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out once a while. Take time to renew yourself. Find time for maintainance. Spend time on Preventing than on Solving Problems Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities, the rest is just pebbles and sand. Believe in yourself, know what you want Believe in yourself, know what you want, and make it happen.

Day 6 Title: Hardwork Objectives: 1.To know the importance of hardwork in becoming a successful nurse. 2. To motivate students to consistently study and apply these on their patients welfare. God Blesses Hard Work by Pastor Terry Ecclesiastes 11:4 If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done. 6 Be sure to stay busy and plant a variety of crops, for you never know which will grow perhaps they all will. Jesus once told a story about a landowner, who before leaving on a trip, called his servants and entrusted each with a portion of his estate. After returning from his trip, the man called for his servants and required each to give an account of what they had done. It was discovered that two of the servants had taken what was given them and doubled it! Yet the third could not report such success. When the man asked for an explanation, the servant replied I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth and here it is. (Mt 25:25) Better to be safe than sorry the servant thought. Yet that is not how the landowner viewed his servants actions. But the master replied, You wicked and lazy servant! (Mt 25:26)

MORAL OF THE STORY: It was Martin Luther of the 16th century, who said He who waits until circumstances completely favor his undertaking, will never accomplish anything. The King James Version uses the word slothful to describe the servant. The word slothful means hesitant. No doubt there were times when the servant felt led to take his masters money and do something productive with it. Yet the fear of failure held him back and as a result he not only accomplished nothing, he was also severely rebuked. So often we blame God whenever we do not see the success in our lives that we see in others. Yet the truth is, our failures have more to do with our fears than with Gods partiality. Solomon said If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.
