WEIGHT TRAINING CLASSES SYLLABUS PE

DESCRIPTION/OBJECTIVES:
The purpose of this course is to enable students to acquire basic knowledge and skills in weight training, build on and improve on these skills and muscular strength and endurance, and begin to enhance self-image. : safety practices terminology musculoskeletal system muscular strength and endurance biomechanical and physiological principles theories, concepts, and skills design, implementation, and evaluation of a personal weight training program weight training activities for fitness fitness assessment nutrition consumer issues, and benefits of participation.

Not everyday will be strictly weight training. Some days there will be large muscle group activities such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, flag football, kick ball etc. that will be offered to break up monotony of weights.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
PE Uniform: Clothing is encouraged to match the school colors. Shorts athletic shorts required (sweat pants can be substituted if preferred) Shirts t-shirt or similar type shirt, must be appropriate for school Socks white is preferred for sanitary reasons. Shoes tennis shoes with closed toe and heal. No flip-flops, boots, slides. Uniforms may be stored in locker, students should provide own lock.

GRADING/EVALUATION:
When you have an unexcused absence from school, you must write a 1 page research article/paper to earn back your PE points from your absence equal to one daily grade, If you have ISS, or OSS, you should hand write a copy of this syllabus to turn instead. If you do nothing, it will result in a ZERO for each absence. Each zero can reduce your overall final grade. Use proper paragraph form to write a 1 page summary or informative paper using the following resources:

Sports article from a newspaper, magazine Sporting event on TV A PSJHS sporting event that you attended football, volleyball, basketball, golf, softball etc. Information on fitness, exercise or weight training or similar PE activity that you have read or found. If you are not absent and want to earn back one non-dress day you may attend a school sporting event and complete a report for extra credit.

*IF YOU CANNOT LIFT WEIGHTS FOR WHAT EVER REASON, ARE NOT FEELING WELL, OR HAVE A MEDICAL EXCUSE, YOU CAN WALK LAPS FOR THE PERIOD FOR CREDIT!*

GRADING

Physical Participation & Dressing out is what is required and students are graded on for daily grade. You will dress out in order to participate in daily activities and/or testing. You will receive lower credit if you only participate, but fail do dress out. If you Dress out, but fail to participate, you will not receive any credit for that day. Dressing out and Participation credit go hand & hand. There will be comprehensive exam at the end of each term to identify muscles used and lifting principles. If you do not think that you are one to work and be active, there are other electives besides PE you could take. Port St Joe HS Grading Scale

How to earn a certain grade.


Dressing out, participating & doing what is required Dressing out, with limited participation Not Dressed out, but participating Limited Participation, not dressing out. Not dressing & not participating

You will earn up to 20 points per day equal to 100 at the end of each week CALCULATIONS OF SEMESTER/FINAL GRADE First 9-weeks grade............40% Second 9-weeks grade.......40% Semester/final exam...........20% Participation = about 60 % of grade Dressing out = about 30 % of grade Attitude & work ethic = about 10 %

GYM Rules 1. You must have your own lock and do not share a locker. This eliminates problems. 2. Use the rest room before you come up stairs for roll, you will not be allowed to go to rest room downstairs unless its an emergency. 3. If you fail to dress out you will sit in upper five rows of bleachers, you may not roam or be on cell phone. 4. Cell phone use will not be tolerated. You will get one warning, and then the phone will be taken up. 5. You will dress out in locker room area. There is not need to dress out in the parking lot area. 6. You must come to roll area for roll. Just being in locker room does not mean you are present for class. 7. Roll will be taken about 10 min after tardy bell rings. You will need to be with the class for roll, not just being in locker room. 8. No Horse playing. 9. Do not sit on stage. 10. If you dress out and do not participate you will forfeit your points for the day. 11. No food or drink in weight room. 12. Rack all weights when finished. 13. Respect each other and the teacher. 14. Report all problems to the teacher. 15. If you cannot lift weights for medical reasons, you will walk laps for your PE points. 16. You are not to leave class and go downstairs or leave the gym with out the coachs permission.
