Facebook VS.

Google+ [Infographic]
By Jason Delodovici Once Google+ started about two weeks ago, the buzz online has driven more than 10 million members to the new social networking site in some sort of snowball effect. Facebook is still dominating the social media market, but with the increased popularity of Google+, the battle for social media supremacy is heating up. Some people say Google+ has it all; that it is the perfect mix between Facebook and Twitter. Below are some side by side comparisons, including privacy, chat and friends, between Facebook and Google+. Will this battle of Internet titans go the distance or will Google+ get the knockout and become the new Social Media Heavyweight

Champion of the World?

Google Plus vs Facebook An Overview

Google has again entered into the social networking game with new strategies. Googles new social networking platform Google plus has been released as an Invite only release and this is a popular marketing technique nowadays to intensify the users urge to join while doing the beta testing with a limited number of users. I got an invite and explored it for a while and all I can say is Google+ is really cool. However, at this stage its very hard to predict if the Google plus vs Facebook competition will make sense. Because, social networking is a market that closely works on peoples psychology giving them a virtual world with an environment that they want. Google already has its social network Orkut, which has almost been ignored by many and it does not have any potential to grow. Its still

bit popular in India and a few other countries and it speaks all about it. Forget Orkut, even

google has forgotten it now. Facebook is the most successful social network in the internet history, unlike the other social networks facebooks growth is solid and it keeps the platform changing frequently so as to give the people something new and keeping them busy with them so that they will not feel bored and think of going outside facebook (not for all but for the majority it works). Moreover facebook started challenging the other Internet giants who are/were not at all into the social networking business. Though google is still the largest Internet company, it has been affected a lot by the growth of facebook. How? Because googles main income is coming from advertising (Google Ads) and after facebook started its advertising game (Facebook Ads) the advertisers have got another choice and the growth of facebook grabbed some advertising areas from google since the social network allows some kind of unique demographic targeting that a search engine or content network cant provide. Still Google is bigger than facebook and the advertising market google has is much larger than Facebook but things can change in future. Why google wants to get into the social networking business? Search engines cant expand their user-base in a bigger way like social networking platforms. If a person wants to search something on the Internet he will use google thats all (forget other search engines since they are too small compared to google). But the social network, on the other hand has a highly expanding user-base. Social networks drag the people

into the virtual world and do the necessary things to keep them inside that virtual world for a long possible time while making them drag some other people too into this virtual world. The more a user spends his time on facebook the greater the money facebook makes. Today facebook has set many new standards to social networking and now facebooks standards have become as the current definitions of social networking. Thus, google can not go away from the current social networking standards and eventually the Google+ looks like a facebook clone. However, one of the nature of the business world is Copying from other successful businesses. Facebook copied some core concepts of twitter too in their later releases and those features helped facebook to expand its boundaries even more. Due to these issues I dont see the copying some features of facebook and any other social networks is not going to make google looks bad. It is just business and as a user what I only want is a social networking platform that gives me the environment I want. Still I dont want to bring joindiaspora here as it has not proved itself in the real market yet, though some features of google+ reminds the joindiaspora (still its a beta) too. The best way to describe an unknown is comparing it with a well known, let me compare Google+ and Facebook!

Google plus vs Facebook My thoughts :

The pluses of Google+ over Facebook 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Google+ provides better privacy and well layered grouping Circles Google+ does not have annoying applications like facebook (may be yet) Google+ combines facebook and twitter together when the main features are concerned Google+ is simple and sweet May be just because it is new Google+ uses the google chat for chatting. It is much better than facebook chat Google hangout is far better than the Facebook video chat

The minuses of Google+ over Facebook 1. Google+ lacks some features that facebook has (Since its new and beta) 2. Google+ does not have anything special for a typical facebook freak who does not care much about privacy 3. Google+ does not have an own powerful branding as a social network (Its a sub-product of google and not a mere social network brand like facebook) However, this is how it could be released because a unique branding is too weeker to compete facebook

Sorry Facebook, Heres Why Google+ Plus Is Better

Zuckerberg is a man so certain of the success of his quest that he can afford to ignore the latest attempt by Google to disrupt the social space. He displays a confidence similar to a card shark who has devoted a prodigious effort in studying every possible move by his competitors. And who now feels safe with the knowledge that every card is marked. This type of naive fiction has worked in the past, and it may work still. But the Google Plus reality is different. Very different. Why Facebook keeps dealing the Joker Facebook ads are better but the content is getting worse. Our activity streams look like a never ending Barnum and Bailey circus act with a parade of new exhibits and headline performances. But instead of the bearded lady, we get Cooking Mama and Salon Street. We can t turn off the freak show, we can only wade through the exhibits until we find one or two that we re interested in. For me, this is boring, semi-useless and a time-waster. Alternatively, Facebook should be ranking the content in my stream by my past likes while keeping that higher ranking content at the top of my activity stream. Instead, the best content is buried while Cooking Mama loiters on the side of my feed. Google+ has approached it differently. They allow you to filter content by circles. Think of these circles as a ten (more or less) ring circus where one can simply tune into the acts and people for which they have an interest. The best part is that the user controls who is in or out of the circles. Facebook s pursuit of a pseudo economy If Facebook spent as much time courting the Global 3000 as it does Zynga, they could have real impact on real business. Instead, they seem content with investing in a pretend economy with pretend coins. Insiders tell me that fake currency is a very real focus for the company. It seems Facebook is deliberately coercing us into the virtual world by the constant notifications, advertising and emails they are hurling at us on a daily basis. I like to Hang With Friends on Zynga but I also like to build business relationships. These relationships have lasting benefits beyond gaming. But Facebook isn t really there. Meanwhile, in the real world, with real businesses and real currency, consumers are being courted by Groupon, LivingSocial and FourSquare. Less fiction, more reality. Google s Enterprise opportunity While Google has not figured out how to extract non-advertising dollars out of businesses either, with Google Plus there are some opportunities. I can see business users

utilizing hangouts like they use Skype today. Except hangouts are integrated into our social networks and not trapped in a Skype silo. I can also see users creating private work circles for their fellow employees, business partners and clients. This arrangement maintains user privacy while eliminating the need to have multiple social networks for personal and business use. No need to maintain multiple networks, just remember which circle to update. But the big opportunity for Google is to leverage all of the content, relationships and communications we produce on the Google platform. Imagine a platform that studies our Gmail subject matter, watches our Google search queries, follows our interactions on Google Plus, and aggregates and categorizes our plus one likes. Then provides us with a smarter activity stream. Sure, it s Orwellian, but if done properly and securely, it s likely to reduce most of the noise while magnifying the signal. I d prefer that over the circus. Will Google Plus Succeed? But up in the stands, we re all a bit tired of Google clowning around with Social. Are they in or not? Many of us have grown quite cynical about their attempts at connecting people instead of analyzing their search behavior. It s not computer science. It s social science. Hire some Social Business experts and create an experience that creates real value, not fictional. Lucky for Google, Facebook continues to struggle with the Red Queen effect. They are running fast, they have a lot of followers, but seem to be getting nowhere. This explains why their innovation has been intellectually exhausted for the past year. All we ve seen out of them are Foursquare, Groupon and LinkedIn me too features that just add to the activity stream freak show. And Facebook appears confused. Are they becoming an entertainment platform with fictional currency, or will they stay an advertising company? In the interim, will Google take advantage and produce a viable contender to Facebook? Many of the tech elite hope so. For now, if Facebook wants you to become the Chief Timewaster, master of your own fictional domain, then so be it. But let s hope Google continues to offer some meaningful tools that help the rest of us connect and collaborate and create some real economic value.

My Personal Involvement With

and

It has been three years since I first signed up to have an account with facebook, but then it was just last year when I became active at it. Before, I was not really interested at any social networking sites, although I make sure I have an account in any of it. You know, just so people around you would not say, you re out of trend. I started to it when I saw its features has been discussed at a television show. I also saw how the host enjoyed while utilizing it, so I told myself I have to try it. At first I was not amazed by how it looks like (I m talking about the physical appearance here), but later on I became very much used to it. Its chatting feature became one of my favorite habit. Its kind of really amazing how facebook helps me to get in touch with my relatives at different parts of the world at real time and in a very low cost. I also adore its photo and video sharing, for me it feels like I was travelling every moment whenever I see their uploaded pictures/videos. It makes me feel like I still knew them though we haven t see each other. I have been active into facebook since last year. On the other hand, here comes a new networking site which is still in its developing stage up to know, the googleplus. Nowadays, a beta version of it is being use by millions of people (and still counting ) around the world. One of those is I, who just got my googleplus account later this day in completion of this paper. As what I have obseve today, googleplus is somewhat physically identical to that of the facebook. Ahh..What could I say?I haven t examined it that much. I just notice that in any activity you re going to do, there s always a lot of options. Maybe that s for users to have a deep security, and to make sure that every little thing in the googleplus can be personalized unlike of that in facebook, in which there are some areas that you want to change but you can t because their system restricted you to do so. Over all, I have read a lot of plus and likes, as well as minuses and dislikes for facebook and googleplus. The public has spoken, blogs about them appeared exponentially like a mushroom. With that, all I can say is that both facebook and googleplus has the right to be in the competitive area of social networking, no one should be turned down or left behind, because both benefits us all. Facebook has lately been trying to add new features at it to please its users, though I would not say all of us were pleased because there are some who were not, but the thing here is that they are trying, and I guess I or we should appreciate it at least, whereas googleplus might offer in the very near future a lot of new features and application we would all surely enjoy.
