I strongly advocate the statement important truths begin as outrageous, or at least uncomfortable, attacks upon the accepted wisdom of the time. The human mind is engineered in such a way that it displays a dogmatic attitude and elicits a reluctance to change and readily rejects new theories or ideas. We like to hold on to our beliefs and find it difficult to adjust to a contradictory view point. Faced with a conflicting situation,we try to fight it out and dismiss it even before considering it. History has seen small change in thinking which have brought about a whole new set of thinking which shattered the myths and beliefs of the past! Darwins theory of evolution by natural selection was and probably still is the most controversial theory in science history. Public had a hard time accepting that human evolved from apes largely because of egoism as it lowers human to the level of animal. Until today, even with abundant evidence and proven hypotheses, certain sect of people still find evolution offensive because it contradicts their beliefs. Had it not been for prodigies like Sir Issac Newton, Galileo and Copernicus who were one of the very fews protesting against beliefs of the supreme Roman Catholic Church, we would still be blindly accepting that the Earth is flat and it is indeed the center of the solar system. Futher remarkable discoveries in physics and the solar system would have been shunned away. Next, first ever flight was designed by the Wright brothers. When people knew more about science, the outlook was very much broad but still there was a strong belief that nothing other than birds can fly. The apparent truth was that something so heavy can fly, people mocked the wright brothers who thought differently than others did and nobody but the brothers had faith in something that in todays world we take for granted An air plane! Not forgetting women of todays world who have achieved heights in every possible sector. But, initially when women stepped forward to fight for equal rights pleading for mere opportunities to prove themselves as capable as men, they were severly opposed and condemned by the public. The world would have never seen a Mother Theresa or Oprah Winfrey or Hilary

Clinton or Anna Loginova if not for the sacrifice of they had undergone because of their conviction. Important social truths dwells the same plight as scientific truth. Take for example, it was long believed that blacks are second class human compared to the white. This piece of belief went unchallenged for many years. Thus when the blacks gathered to fight for their rights in 1960s, they were scorned, harassed, attacked or even assassinated. The truth that all men are created equal, regardless of race, were met with fierce opposition from the public because they were not ready to accept it. In a nutshell, whenever truth has been exposed among the public, it became the victim of skepticism and disapproval. Since this truths are in contrast with peoples so called beliefs.
