Todays Problem
A research company primarily focussing on identifying new potential drugs is expanding its research facilities in order to carry out cell culture assays. The management has identified premises where the new cell culture facility can be setup.

As a laboratory specialist, how would you assist your project director in converting the empty premises into a cell culture facility?

What do you recognize?

Cell culture assay can be used in drug discovery research Cells can be grown in laboratory conditions There must be special requirements for growing cells in a laboratory There are special techniques to be practiced in order to grow cells in vitro. There can be biosafety concerns in setting up a cell culture facility.

The Approach
What is cell culture? What are the special requirements (environment, equipment and materials) of a cell culture lab? What are the special techniques required for cell culture procedures? What are the procedures followed in a cell culture lab? How are the biosafety concerns addressed in a cell laboratory Why do we use cells in research? What are the areas of research where cell cultures are used ?
