The luggage racks, handles, fittings and ceiling panel are all designed to reinforce the impression of space. You can choose among three color themes, where the roof lining, walls, modesty panel and seat covers all match one another.

Climate control
The on-board environment stays pleasant thanks to an efficient, high-capacity ventilation system, good air circulation and individually adjustable air vents for each seat. The vehicles roof-mounted, fully automatic HVAC AC353 dual-pipe air conditioning and heating system also features separate computerized climate controls for the driver.

Stay in focus
The air-suspended drivers seat and seat belt can both be adjusted to provide a relaxing, individually tailored position behind the wheel. The climate in the drivers compartment can be regulated separately for a pleasant working atmosphere. The high-torque engine combined with our automatic Volvo I-Shift transmission system results in exceptional driveability, which in turn means that you always have access to all the power you need. The number of gear changes is minimized, and you can maintain a high and steady average speed. Good weight distribution and a stiff frame with electronically controlled air suspension result in particularly good stability and comfort. The Volvo 9700 also excels in congested city streets. The Volvo 9700 comes with the Volvo D13 engine from Volvo Powertrain, one of the worlds largest producers of heavyduty diesel engines. The Volvo D13 is a powerful, lightweight engine. Its based on Volvos new family of engines that meet current and future regulations while at the same time improve reliability and minimize operational cost. The D13 features improved fuel economy, extended oil change intervals and an updated engine brake thats up to 20% more powerful. The engine provides impressive performance with excellent low-end torque for improved driveability. The Volvo D13 is completely assembled in the United States.

maintenance. The roomier compartment makes it easier to reach and service the SCR and DPF system, with easier access to major components such as fans and radiators. Designed to maximize cooling, this vertical configuration poses no heat risk to engine components, and requires no special protection or skid plates to guard against stones, dirt, water and other road hazards. DPF and SCR components and sensors are well protected from damage, which improves their longevity. Compared with a traditional exhaust pipe, the diffuser quickly dissipates heat so that exhaust gas temperatures drop by 50% within six inches of the diffuser. The roof flush mount prevents water infiltration and improves the appearance of the coach.

eleCTRoniC BRaKinG SySTem (eBS) anD eleCTRoniC STaBiliTy pRoGRam (eSp)

The Volvo 9700 features Volvo disc brakes with EBS, which offers excellent braking performance and rapid, gentle and controlled braking. In addition, there are other safetyenhancing and comfort-boosting solutions, such as Hill Start Aid, which stops the bus from rolling backwards when starting on a hill. Supplementing the wheel brakes is Volvos

powerful engine brake, VEB (Volvo Engine Brake). With the help of the Brake Blending function, the auxiliary brakes perform as large a part of the braking work as possible before the wheel brakes are activated. The Volvo 9700 comes standard with ESP. ESP significantly reduces the risk of the bus rolling over or driving off the road both in normal road conditions and when the surface is slippery.

TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM

Improper tire temperature or pressure are among the main contributors to tire failure. The Volvo Tire Pressure Monitoring System samples temperature and pressure and helps detect inner drive tire failures that are often overlooked in general inspections. Providing real-time tire pressure readings, drivers can easily monitor tires for optimal pressures, which can contribute to improved fuel economy.

Unique Volvo protection for driver

In order to improve safety for the driver, Volvo has introduced Front Impact Protection (FIP) and Knee Impact Protectionthe first manufacturer to do so. The former is a frontal collision protection system that absorbs and diverts impact forces in the event of a frontal collision. Knee Impact Protection reduces the risk of injury to the drivers knees and legs in a frontal collision. It consists of energyabsorbing panels positioned at knee height behind the instrument panel. In an impact where the drivers knees strike the instrument panel, the kinetic energy is absorbed by the impact panels, which crumple gently and in a controlled manner to minimize injury.

ENGINE FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM

Monitoring the engine compartment, the Engine Fire Suppression System is the most complete system on the market today. It uses linear thermal detection and an optical infrared to improve passenger safety by protecting the engine compartment and auxiliary heater. The system provides audible and visual warnings to the driver in case of an incident.

Volvo first with FRonT UnDeRRUn pRoTeCTion SySTem (FUpS) in coaches

In a frontal collision between a bus and a passenger car, it is the occupants of the car who suffer the greatest risk of injury. In order to improve their safety, the Volvo 9700 is equipped with FUPS. The underrun protection system consists of a steel beam fitted behind the bumper that prevents the car from becoming wedged under the bus. In a collision, it absorbs the cars impact and allows itself to deform to lessen the force of the impact. Volvo is the first vehicle manufacturer to fit this type of underrun protection system to buses.

If an accident should occur, our aim is to reduce the consequences as much as possible. The interior is soft and free from protruding parts or sharp edges.

SEAT Belt Safety

The Volvo 9700 features comfortable North American styled seating, and three-point seatbelts are standard equipment. The drivers seat is also equipped with a threepoint seat belt for optimal safety during operation.
