SAVING
COUPONS
K
innelon Dentist Dr.
Peter Brusco chose to
spend his weekend a
little differently on January 7-
8. Along with twelve
others in his field, and
his lovely assistant
Sandy, Dr. Brusco trav-
eled to Fort Dix and
the McGuire Air Force
Base to perform dental
check -ups and clear-
ances for soldiers. For
everything these men
and women have done
for our country, this
was the least I could do
to say thank you, said
Dr. Brusco.
The base set up
several trailers filled
with the latest in den-
tal technology where
the dentists would each see
hundreds and hundreds of
patients. Thousands of ser-
vicemen from the Army and
the Air Force (both enlisted
and in the reserves) would
have the opportunity for a
dental screening. A busy
weekend for the dentists,
but Dr. Brusco was eager
to offer his support to
the troops.
The weekend start-
ed off with some military
training for the dentists.
Believe it or not, there
are strict dental health
classifications that can
stall a soldiers deploy-
ment. Soldiers are rated
from 1 (the best) to 3
(the worst). We even
had to answer affirma-
tive for yes, and nega-
tive for no, explained
Dr. Brusco. It was very
cool. Once everyone
was clear on their mission and
the proper protocol, it was
time to begin.
Through the day, Dr.
Brusco saw about six hundred
soldiers. He and Sandy took
scans and X-Rays, blood pres-
sure readings, and performed
fillings and even extractions.
Those who were rated poorly
according to the militarys
classification system were
given the proper treatment
they needed under the friend-
ly gentle hand of Dr. Brusco.
But what was most fulfilling
were the opportunities to hear
the stories of several of the
soldiers. Many of these men
and women had such tremen-
dous stories. One soldier I had
the opportunity to get to
know had flown as a pilot in
six separate missions! Just
incredible, said a genuinely
impacted Dr. Brusco. He is
already eager to participate in
next months screenings.

more about Dr. Bruscos prac-
tice in Kinnelon or about the
work he is doing with the
United States military, visit

T
oday, it is universally
accepted, that a
secure retirement will
require a nest-egg of multiple
millions of dollars for those
who intend to one day be able
to live off the rate of return
their retirement portfolio can
generate. It is my firm belief
that people in their twenties
or early thirties today will
require no less than
$10,000,000 as a base portfo-
lio necessary to generate the
income necessary to live when
they reach normal retirement
age of receiving their full
Social Security check, under
current law, age 67. As I have
stated in this publication
before, I believe the target age
for a full Social Security check
to be misleading with the age
being postponed to at least 75
by the time the current twen-
ty and thirty-somethings
reach their sixth decade of
life. When I received my first
paycheck at the age of 14 after
securing my working papers,
my employer explained to me
why I couldnt keep all of the
minimum wage, ($2.35 per
hour) that was paid to me. He
explained it as a contract
between me and the US
Government that was
reflected in the words FICA
on my pay stub. In 51 years
he said, the United States of
America would provide me
a pension check at age 65,
based on my earnings and
contributions into the sys-
tem. I later found out that
there was no contract at all,
not even a promise, just a
deduction each paycheck
with the hope that I would
be able to receive my per-
sonally paid for pension check
in full at age 65. The Federal
Government had other ideas
and they are far from done in
creative postponement and
qualification to receive my
retirement benefit package.
Needless to say I was not
happy to work for a promised
pay rate, yet have so many
deductions as per law, that the
check I ultimately received
was less than 85% of what was
promised. I could not place
blame on the employer as the
difference was not being held
nor confiscated by him. It was
a new term I learned about for
the first time called the I.R.S.
But, let me not stray too
far from my point; in 1967,
the federal government set
out to measure the impact of
inflation each year and there-
fore needed a starting point.
This was the birth of the CPI,
the Consumer Price Index.
Today, a 1967 dollar is worth
84% less when compared to
1967 or just 16. This means
that a 25 year old in 1967 with
a goal to accumulate
$1,000,000 in 44 years would
now need $6,250,000 to have
the same purchasing power in
1967 dollars. In other words,
a million dollars would only
be worth $160,000! By the
same token, if inflation is no
worse or better over the next
44 years than the last 44 years,
$10,000,000 is needed in 44
years to have the same pur-
chasing power as $1,600,000
in 2011 dollars. Assuming a
5% withdrawal rate, a per-
son my daughters age today
of 23 will need to be a deca-
millionaire to have an annu-
al income in todays dollars
of $80,000. Would you feel
like a deca-millionaire with
and annual purchasing
power of $80,000 in annual
income? I think not!
Last week my father
passed away at age 76. I am
now age 50. We were only 26
years apart and unfortunately
my father was uninsurable for
decades due to many medical
reasons. Had this not been
the case, I could have guaran-
teed myself a million dollar

payday. You see, we all have
the choice to invest capital in
some known vehicle with an
unknown rate of return hold-
ing our breath for the ultimate
outcome, a retirement portfo-
lio. Or we could guarantee
our financial futures by buy-
ing a multi-million life insur-
ance policy on Dad, Mom or
a substitute insured, like one
of their brothers or sisters.
Its true that we do not know
when they will die, nor do we
want to know. We only know
that they indeed will die and if
a policy is in force, there will
be that 6 or 7 figure pay-off to
the beneficiary, in this case it
couldve been me. Depending
on the age and health of the
insured, the premium figures
can be easily determined and
compared to the investment
alternatives available. You
would be hard pressed to find
a properly designed life insur-
ance policy that could not
beat the same premium
invested into the S+P 500,
the Dow Jones Industrial
Average or a myriad of other
choices at the death of the
insured. In my case, I had the
annual dollars to make such a
life policy investment, but,
could not due to the health
issues of both of my parents
and neither had siblings.
However, for the rest of the
insurable public, the under-
writing process may merely be
an inconvenience.
If I had been fortunate
enough to have been able to
insure my Dad for $1,000,000
and be responsible enough to
pay the annual premiums for
the last 20 years, today I
would have another
$1,000,000 added to my net
worth. If he were still alive,
the cash value of the policy
would still be mine and use-
able before his demise. There
is no shame or embarrassment
in this technique to create
wealth or a retirement plan.
Everyone dies and the insur-
ance companies make a profit
selling life insurance to the
people who purchase it to
eventually receive a payout
from it. This folks is a guaran-
teed retirement plan; the only
thing the purchaser doesnt
know is when he or she will
collect it. 76 is too young an
age to die, that is without
question and 50 is too young
an age to collect on a fathers
life insurance policy. But, if we
were to increase both of our
ages to 86 and 60 or 96 and 70
respectively, both parties
would have ended up win-
ning, Dad with a longer life,
and me with a more secure
and robust retirement nest-
egg based upon the additional
years of retirement plan asset
accumulations and the ulti-
mate death benefit from the
policy.
Though I could not
insure my parents, I did insure
myself for millions for the
benefit of my wifes retirement
security as well as for
my childrens inheritance.
Interestingly enough, my poli-
cies are uniquely designed to
benefit me too, should I live a
long life, providing me with a
tax-free income during my
retirement years. This type of
plan is so simple to under-
stand and easy to implement,
everyone should do it. Write
and ask me for a plan specifi-
cally designed for your budget
and circumstances that will
provide a living benefit for
you, a retirement income for
your spouse and a legacy for
your kids. It would be my
pleasure to produce a proposal
for all who just ask for one,
free of charge.

Throughout 2011,
brides from Kate Middleton

have an extensive collection
of beautiful designer crystal

discerning brides.
Ms. Maier has
these tips for
brides who want to
look royal
British or
American style:
Choose crystal
and pearl styles
that are distinctive
yet not over-

Balance the pro-
portions of your
earrings and neck-

match, keep
them close in size

Or if you choose

reatment of muscle
and other soft tissue
injury has traditional-
ly included various types of
massage, acupressure, trigger
point therapy, deep tissue
techniques, heat/cold therapy,
ultrasound, electrotherapy
and stretch/strengthen exer-
cise, among others. More
recently, improved under-
standing of neurophysiology
has led to the development of
additional techniques for soft
tissue rehabilitation. Because
chiropractors specialize in
treating neuromusculoskeletal
conditions, many chiropractic
offices provide many versions
of soft tissue techniques.
Iscemic compression and
cross friction massage are soft
tissue techniques that chiro-
practors have found particu-
larly effective for both quick
pain relief and rapid injury
rehabilitation. It involves a
specific force or pressure for a
specific time to the treated
area. These techniques are
sometimes simultaneously
combined with movement
and specialized breathing.
What makes this technique so
effective is its ability to imme-
diately activate important
nerve-muscle reflexes. When
these reflexes are stimulated
the result is almost instanta-
neous relaxation of a muscle,
allowing the muscle to length-
en. In many cases, practition-
ers have observed rapid
decrease in pain and inflam-
mation, and marked improve-
ment in range of motion.
By essentially resetting
a muscles resting tone, these
techniques seem to facilitate
better and faster tissue heal-
ing. Not only does it dissipate
chronic muscle triggerpoints
and tendonitis, these tech-
niques also appears to improve
glide within and between tis-
sues, and breakdown scar tis-
sue adhesions in muscles, ten-
dons, ligaments and around
nerves.
Chiropractors have used
these techniques to successful-
ly treat many soft tissue and
joint conditions that other
therapies have failed to
resolve. For example, a patient
recently visited a chiropractor
complaining of debilitating
back, hip and groin pain that
began following a car accident
many years earlier. She said
she had tried everything to
cure her problem, to no avail.
Walking, gardening and golf
were among the favorite activ-
ities she had been forced to
give up long ago, and only
extra-strength painkillers
enabled her to make it
through the day. Utilizing
these soft tissue techniques as
part of her chiropractic care,
she experienced significant
symptom relief after only a few
weeks of treatment. She is
now going for walks again,
gardening and looking for-
ward to golf.

atthew graduated with honors from New York
University in 1997 and began a satisfying career in
orthopedics specializing in spine rehabilitation. Ever
keen to learn and do more for his patients Matthew began
studying diligently for his certification in Orthopedic Manual
Therapy. This training exposed him to the concept of
Maitland Australian therapy, the Maitland Concept is referred
to as a concept and not as a technique. Emphasis is placed
not on the technique of treatment but on a basic philosophy-
a thought and decision making process, involving analytical
examination and assessment on which treatment decisions are
based.
Matthew has also had the thrill of studying with world-
renowned therapists Brian Mulligan and David Butler, further
expanding his clinical skills into more diverse orthopedic and
nerve injury treatments. Not to be missed, Matthew also
trained in the McKenzie Diagnosis and treatment of the spine.
Matthew believes the combination of this training and
education in the Australian, New Zealand and American
treatment strategies have allowed him to provide broader
range of treatment options thereby helping more patients.
Matthew has been a Director of Physical Therapy for 8
years, helping develop spine and sports clinics into leaders in

T
om Ferraro, Solar &
More - If youre like
me, the recent per-
formance of stocks, bonds, real
estate and some other so-
called safe investments have
been playing havoc with my
tolerance for risk. Our 401k
has performed like a yoyo
since our financial markets
crashed back in 2008 and
actually, more like dead-
weight!
Since then, Ive moved
most of my investments into
low return but safe money
markets and certificates of
deposits, lowering my returns
down to what I call why
bother rates. The returns
promised by investment hous-
es just dont materialize any
more unless youre willing to
take on high risk.
But there is an option
not very well understooda
way to diversify your invest-
ment portfolio while garner-
ing double digit returns.
Known to only a select few, a
solar photovoltaic (PV) sys-
tem can return between 13-
20% on your investment.
Heres how it works.
The cost of a typical solar
PV system in New Jersey is
averaging about $30,000.
First, right off the top, youre
eligible for a 30% Federal Tax
Credit, or in this case $9,000.
So now youre down to an
adjusted cost of $21,000. A
typical $30,000 system would
probably reduce your electric
bill about $1,300 in the first
year. And through a New
Jersey incentive program
called SRECs (Solar Renew-
able Energy Certificates),
youd generate another $2,000
per year in income. This
results in a total annual cash
flow of $3,300, or a simple
Return on Investment of over
15%. A payback on this
investment would come out to
6.4 years on an investment
that will last for at least 25,
and probably 30 40 years.
With this cash outlay,
youll recover about 40%, or
$12,000 in the first year alone.
And there are programs to
help you get to the end of the
first year without any out of
pocket outlays. In effect, buy
a $30,000 solar system and
only pay $18,000after the
end of the first year!
So, the question you
have to ask your investment
advisor is: can you get me 15%
on an investment whose prin-
ciple cant go down without
affected my current cash flow?
The answer is yesif you
invest in solar!

tems. For more information,

O
ld age happens. Our
dogs are no excep-
tion. As our dogs
become senior citizens, their
physical and mental capabili-
ties change and their needs
change too. Being aware of
these changes and knowing
what to expect will help your
pets golden years be happy
and comfortable.
Some common changes
that you may expect to see in
your senior dog are: loss of
hearing or vision, decreased
activity and/or weight gain,
changes in skin or fur, dental
disease, more sensitive stom-
ach, lumps and bumps, or
even dementia. These
changes dont happen at the
same time for all dogs
because in general, smaller
breeds live longer than larger
dogs. A good rule of thumb
is that, on average, a dog is
considered a senior at 7 years
of age.
Senior dogs may act dif-
ferently and may require dif-
ferent care but AGE IS NOT
A DISEASE. These dogs
arent lost causes and mini-
mal effort can add years to
their lives. The main focus
should be on prevention.
Whenever possible, it is bet-
ter and less costly to prevent
a problem from occurring,
rather than wait for a prob-
lem to develop. Detecting
diseases in their early stages
greatly improves the out-
come. Advancements in vet-
erinary medicine have kept
our pets alive longer, health-
ier and happier. If there is a
problem with your dog, don't
assume its just because
he/she is old, and nothing
can be done. With the appro-
priate treatment, which can
be simple and non-invasive,
many conditions can
improve.
Geriatric care for your
dog and prevention begins
with routine visits to your
veterinarian. Most pets visit
their veterinarian once a
year but it is recommended
that senior pets be seen every
6 months. Mainly because
dogs age approximately seven
times faster than us and early
detection of problems is key.
Your veterinarian may do the
following to assess and main-
tain a healthy senior dog:
take a thorough medical his-
tory noting changes in
behavior and physical abili-
ties, a complete physical
examination, early detection
bloodworm and urinalysis,
aspiration of any new lumps
or bumps, x-rays, glaucoma
checks and blood pressure
checks.
Based on the veterinari-
ans findings, treatment
options and care can be dis-
cussed. One of the most
important aspects is nutri-
tion. In general, a high qual-
ity senior food is recom-
mended once your dog reach-
es 7 years of age but there
may be very individual nutri-
tional needs. The best food
to feed depends on the spe-
cific problems or nutritional
requirements of the individ-
ual animal. For instance,
obesity is a very common
problem of older animals and
will shorten their lifespan. A
lower calorie/ higher fiber
diet would be recommended
for these dogs. Other diets
would be advised for dogs
with GI disorders, kidney or
liver disease, arthritis, skin
problems, etc.
Home care is also essen-
tial. Close observation of
any changes in mobility,
drinking, eating, etc should
be noted and reported to
your veterinarian early.
Potential problems may also
be uncovered by getting your
hands on your pet to inspect
them periodically.
Feed a good quality dog
food that is appropriate for
your dog's specific needs. Do
not allow your pet to gain
excessive weight which is
very common when your sen-
ior dogs metabolism slows
down and they dont exercise
as much. It can make them
more prone to arthritis, heart
disease and diabetes. Follow
your veterinarian's recom-
mendations as to exercise,
nutrition and any medica-
tions that may be needed.
Our senior dogs may not
be able to do what they used
to but with a little preven-
tion and early detection they
can still live a happy, fulfill-
ing life and still be wonderful
companions to us.

ncouraging the use of
creative activities and
games that challenge
your children to think outside
the box and build their prob-
lem solving skills at an early
age will help encourage them
to become independent
thinkers and problem solvers
skills that will benefit them
for the rest of their lives.
Giving your child simple
games such as building blocks
that require identifying differ-
ent shapes is a great way to
start building problem solving
skills. For older children, more
challenging games may be
required to build their prob-
lem solving abilities and their
confidence in taking on
greater challenges. One new
game that has caught the
attention of educators and
parents alike is the new
Perplexus 3D game maze by
Plasmart Inc. This is a 3-
dimensional maze game where
players maneuver a small mar-
ble around challenging barri-
ers inside a large-sized trans-
parent sphere. Unlike tradi-
tional flat-surface mazes that
are composed of one path,
Perplexus challenges players
problem solving abilities with
numerous paths to choose
from and hundreds of barriers
to overcome. Players can race
each other or the clock. In
addition to being an enter-
taining game, its a valuable
tool for cognitive develop-
ment, encouraging children to
exercise their problem-solv-
ing, motor and dexterity skills,
as well as improving their
hand-eye coordination.
Experts say the game is just as
challenging for adults as it is
for children and will especial-
ly keep parent solving skills
sharp as well.

ith the deepfreeze
factor at its annual
high, the potential
benefits of making energy sav-
ing improvements really hit
home. Yet saving energy and
money and adding comfort to
your home should always be in
season. Industry experts at
Icynene (icynene.com) recom-
mend you put these home
improvement tips on your 2012
calendar:
Winter
Install affordable plastic win-
dow-sealing kits, especially
where you feel drafts.
Install foam gaskets behind
electrical outlets and switches
to reduce air leakage.
Close the fireplace damper
tightly when its not in use. If
you use your fireplace regularly,
consider adding a well-
designed insert.
Replace or clean furnace fil-
ters at least once every three
months.
Spring
Consider larger home
improvements, like replacing
windows that are best complet-
ed when the weather is nice.
Consider adding spray foam
insulation (like innovative
Icynene) to your attic or in
other areas of your home where
the summer heat can infiltrate.
You can start saving up to 50
percent in energy costs all year
long.
Is your air conditioner old or
on its last legs? Before things
heat up, consider investing in
an energy efficient Energy Star-
rated unit. Consult an expert to
ensure the size of the unit is
properly matched to the needs
of your home.
Summer
Add window coverings to
block sunlight during the day,
so your air conditioner doesnt
have to work as hard.
Replace inefficient incandes-
cent lighting with more effi-
cient compact fluorescent or
LED lighting that also produce
less heat.
Check your hot water tank. If
its warm to the touch, it might
need some extra insulation.
Check your home improve-
ment store for inexpensive pre-
cut tank jackets or blankets.
Fall
Check insulation levels
where you can, like the attic or
the floor of a room over the
garage. If you didnt get to it in
the spring, install spray foam
insulation to seal around open-
ings and penetrations that let
air flow in and out of your
home.
Use caulking, sealant and
weather-stripping to create a
barrier against air and water
around doorframes, windows
and baseboards. Choose the
right caulking for the surface.
Insulate your hot water pipes
to reduce heat loss. It may
enable you to reduce the tem-
perature setting on your hot
water tank.

hat do house-
plants, a boiling
pot of pasta and
your shower all have in com-
mon? They all add moisture to
your homes interior. And,
while some humidity in the
home is good, excessive mois-
ture can be uncomfortable.
We often get calls from
homeowners who are con-
cerned that their windows are
sweating or leaking either
inside or outside the home
because they see moisture on
the glass, says Christopher
Burk, technical product man-
ager at Simonton Windows
(R). In reality, thats simply
not the case. While condensa-
tion may collect on the interi-
or or exterior of energy-effi-
cient windows, the units are
really doing their job by help-
ing serve as a barrier in the
home.
Burk points out those
windows do not cause con-
densation they simply pre-
vent the moisture in the home
from escaping to the outside.
If the inside glass surface on
double- or triple-glazed win-
dows show excessive moisture,
you can be reasonably sure
that the moisture is also col-
lecting on your walls and ceil-
ings, says Burk. This means
you should take steps to
reduce the humidity level in
your home by using exhaust
fans and dehumidifiers.
Where Does Condensation
Come From?
Youd be surprised how
much water vapor homeown-
ers create themselves on a
daily basis. A family of four
can add a half pint of water
vapor every hour to the home
just through normal breathing
and perspiration. And, if you
take a five minute shower, you
produce another half pint of
water vapor. Even the simple
act of cooking dinner on a gas
stove can produce two and a
half pints of water vapor.
Invisible water vapor is
everywhere in the home, says
Burk. The key is for home-
owners to monitor the levels
of moisture in their homes
and then take steps to manage
the humidity levels.
What Can a Homeowner Do
to Help Reduce Conden-
sation?
Water vapor is part of our
lives and our homes. To help
control the amount of con-
densation in the home,
experts at Simonton Windows
recommend the following tips:
Use kitchen and bathroom
exhaust fans.
If you have a humidifier, set
it to the correct outside tem-
perature.
If your home is overly
humid, or if you have a damp
basement, use a dehumidifier.
Properly vent clothes dryers,
gas appliances and stoves.
Open a window in the bath-
room.
Make sure your attic, base-
ment and crawl spaces are
well ventilated and free from
obstructions.
Store firewood outside.
Freshly-cut wood can consist
of up to 45 percent water,
which adds water vapor to the
home. Even well-seasoned
firewood generally has 20 to
25 percent moisture content.
Open curtains and blinds to
allow more air circulation
around your windows.
Worrisome Windows
Homeowners with the
most cause for concern are
those with older, less efficient
windows.

Understanding condensation in your home
Kitchen activities, such as cooking and washing dishes,
can add water vapor to the interior of the home.

W
omen make up a
fast-growing seg-
ment of the home
improvement market. Acc-
ording to research by Sears,
Roebuck & Co. and Investor's
Business Daily, 53 percent of
married women are responsi-
ble for basic household main-
tenance and repair. Women
also comprise 50 percent of all
residential buyers at major
home improvement stores and
generally spend more than
men when shopping. Women
also make 85 percent of all
remodeling decisions around
the home. As a result, more
retailers cater to female shop-
pers in their home improve-
ment promotions.
Windows are just like
any other major part of the
home, says Burk. They wear
out over time and need to be
replaced. If your windows
have air leaks, dont close
properly, or are failing to act as
a solid barrier to the environ-
ment, then its time to consid-
er replacing them with energy-
efficient windows.
Burk also recommends know-
ing the difference between
condensation on the glass and
between the glass panes of the
window.
If you are seeing mois-
ture, fogging or cloudiness
between the panes of glass in
your window, this is a strong
indication that the seal of
your window has failed and
its time to replace your win-
dow, says Burk. In operable
window units, a failed seal
can often be corrected by
simply replacing the sash.
However, seal failure reduces
energy efficiency and the
unit will not work as effec-
tively to help you keep ener-
gy bills low and enjoy com-
fortable living in your home.
While condensation on the
interior or exterior of the
glass is manageable, moisture
between the glass needs swift
attention by homeowners.

lets on how to know when its

arbecuing isnt just
for the lazy days of
summer. Delicious
grilled meals are easy to
prepare year-round. Here
are a few tips for winter
barbecuing that are
important to remember
before you get the snow
shovel out.
Always pre-heat your
barbecue. Pre-heat to
400o F 450o F at min-
imum, and adjust the
temperature from there.
Remember, if food does-
nt sizzle when you put it
on the grill, your barbe-
cue is not hot enough.
If you are grilling with char-
coal, include more charcoal
for increased pre-heating time
and extra heat while grilling.
Cooking times may change
with extreme cold. Always use
an instant read thermometer
to ensure that foods are
cooked thoroughly.
Grill with the lid down.
Heat loss on a cold day is sig-
nificantly greater than a warm
summer day, and keeping your
barbecue at a consistent tem-
perature will be very difficult
with the lid open.
When grilling on a windy
day, try to reduce your expo-
sure to the wind. If
grilling at lower temper-
atures, keep an eye on
your barbecue to ensure
that it does not blow out.
If you do need to move
your barbecue out of the
wind, keep minimum
clearances in mind to
avoid damaging your
deck or home.
Clear a work area
around your barbecue.
This wont impact cook-
ing time, but having
enough room to work
without filling your
boots with snow makes
for a much more enjoy-
able barbecue experience and
avoids any untimely slips or
falls.
Several lighting options are
available. Some barbecues
have built in lighting, and
add-on handle lights are avail-
able so youre not grilling in
the dark. Broil King offers a
variety of lighting options for
their barbecues.
Never use your barbecue
indoors, in your garage or in
an enclosed area. Carbon
Monoxide accumulation,
accidental fire damage, and
smoke damage are all possi-
ble its not worth the risk.

and great recipe ideas is

for Your
Dinner
Party
O
ver the last couple of years, dining out has become an even bigger luxury than it
once was. Thanks to the struggling economy, many people have decided to cut
back on spending, and dining out has become casualty of such events.
While the economy is gradually rebounding, dining out is still largely reserved for
special occasions among those whose memory of the recession is still fresh. However,
dining out does remain a strong choice when hosting a special occasion such as a birthday
party or anniversary celebration. When choosing a restaurant to have such a gathering,
consider the following tips to ensure that rare restaurant night out goes off without a hitch.
NEW
whats
in dining?
Look for versatility in a menu. When
dining out, the emphasis is obviously on the
food. Couples might enjoy certain
restaurants they have previously patronized,
but that does not necessarily make the
restaurant ideal for a party. When shopping
for a restaurant, look for one that boasts a
versatile menu that can cater to a vast array
of palates. Especially for larger parties, the
versatility of the menu is very important.
Restaurants that boast a large entree
selection that includes meat, poultry,
seafood, and even vegetarian dishes ensures
each guest has options.
Examine the elbow room. Because dining
out has become such a luxury, comfort
should be another key consideration. Look
for a restaurant that provides ample elbow
room so everyone can relax and wont feel
crowded.
Be sure there are places to park. Chances
are, most guests will be driving to the party.
While it seems like an afterthought, the
restaurant should provide ample, and ideally
free, parking. Avoid restaurants that charge
for valet service or inquire if such service
can be included on the tab ahead of time.
Reserve well in advance. If its a truly
special occasion, be sure to begin the process
of finding a restaurant as early as possible
and make a reservation the moment a
decision is made. Reservations can always
be cancelled should things not work out.

F
rom the early 1990s to
the beginning of this
century, bigger is bet-
ter certainly was the mantra
of the home-building industry.
All across North America
buyers could browse among
home developments boasting
homes of 3,000 square feet or
larger and multiple bedrooms
and bathrooms. But according
to new data, home buyers are
seeking less space today but
more in green amenities.
Research by the
Canadian Home Builders
Association has found that
many people now desire
smaller homes with multipur-
pose rooms and energy saving
features. Theyre not ready to
trade in their two- and three-
car garages just yet, though.
Plus, a survey of International
Furnishings and Design
Association members fore-
casts that McMansions will
become a thing of the past and
more emphasis will be placed
on smaller, more eco-friendly
homes. Family rooms will
grow larger, as will kitchens.
Other rooms in the home will
disappear, including the living
room.
Many homeowners and
potential home buyers realize
that with girth comes a cost.
In todays fragile economy, the
ability to cash in on the dream
of homeownership may come
at the compromise of a small-
er, better-planned home.
According to Tim Bailey,
the manager of Avid Canada,
a research and consulting firm
for the building industry,
While many consumers are
willing to forgo space, they are
not equating this with having
to forfeit functionality. Design
creativity is requisite to adapt
to this changing preference.

Mommy and Me Fitness!
Mothers with infants and
young toddlers have always
been challenged to find a
way to get back in shape
while focusing on the
demands of new mother-
hood. This class lets mom
keep baby within arms reach
so there is no need to worry
about finding a sitter or mak-
ing the time away from baby
to workout. The StrollFit
program is developed with
the needs of both mom and
baby in mind. Each 60-
minute class consists of car-
diovascular, strength and
flexibility training for a total
body workout. The classes
also provide a great environ-
ment for moms to connect
with one another and devel-
op support systems for
achieving fitness goals. Not
to mention bonding with
your baby! Now offered at 2
locations Wayne and
Montclair. For more informa-
tion or to attend a free class-
Contact Tami Wolfe at 973-
896-4828 or email tamis-
wolfe@comcast. net.
Here are some things
that you will and will not find
in newer homes moving for-
ward.
The dining room is becom-
ing extinct, with larger, eat-
i n- ki t chen/ ent er t ai ni ng
spaces the norm. The kitchen
will be the main room of the
home and be renamed the
kitchen lounge.
Separate rooms are evolving
into spaces that serve many
different purposes.
Although the sizes of bath-
rooms may be scaled back, the
amenities will not. Spa-style
bathrooms with luxurious
products, high-tech features
and televisions will be on the
rise.
The master bedroom suite
may not shrink in size, but it
could be combined to form a
home office and exercise
space.
Expect to see more high-
tech offerings, such as voice-
or motion-activation devices
in the home. Lighting, enter-
tainment gear, heating/cool-
ing systems, and even blinds
could be hooked up to a mas-
ter control system.
Thanks to an increasing
number of people working
from home, the presence of a
dedicated home office is a
given in newer homes. Nearly
40 percent of industry fore-
casters say that they expect
one in every home.
Home storage solutions will
also be a vital component of
new homes. Builders will cre-
ate clever solutions for mixing
storage into more compact
spaces.
With aging Baby Boomers
comprising a larger segment of
home buyers, expect to see
more one-level homes, or at
least homes where there is a
master suite and the majority
of the living space on the first
level.
Part of what is driving
this trend is the cost of homes
in relation to space and the
increased interest in environ-
mental conservation. Smaller,
more efficient homes require
less in terms of heating and
cooling energy. They need less
furniture, and new materials
made from sustainable prod-
ucts help further fuel green
initiatives in the building
industry. Energy efficient
homes are a main priority for
buyers. Although the homes
may be smaller, they will not
be miniscule. And home buy-
ers can expect a host of
amenities that will make the
smaller size of homes barely
perceptible.

J
effrey David Halpern,
Vice President-Branch
Manager of Coccia
Realty, Madison, recently
announced that Gaye Collins,
formerly of Weichert Realtors,
joined the firm as a Realtor.
We are very excited to
have Gaye join our team.
Personable and knowledge-
able describes Gaye. She has
been in the Real Estate busi-
ness, assisting clients and cus-
tomers to buy & sell properties
since 2004, boasts Halpern.
As a full-time Realtor,
Gaye understands the need to
hire the right real estate
agent, one who focuses on a
clients individual needs, the
neighborhood, the communi-
ty and the intangibles; which
makes a house and area, a
home.
What my clients discov-
er about me explains Collins,
I believe wholeheartedly in
the unique, personal nature of
real estate. My motto,
Customer Service Beyond
Customer Expectation, is
more than just words; it is
what I strive for.
I never promise what I
cannot deliver she added, I
joined Coccia Realtys
Madison Office because their
philosophy, of providing pro-
fessional and personal service,
mirrors mine. Coupling that
with the total support for their
agents, I can concentrate on
my clients needs, with all the
tools necessary to assist those
clients, without the corporate
constraints and rising out-of-
pocket costs from the big
box real estate companies.
Ms. Collins resides in
Whippany with her husband
and two children. She is
involved with numerous com-
munity organizations and is
the former Vice President of
the Salem Drive School PTA.
Selling homes since
1961, Coccia Realty, Inc. is a
member in good standing of
the National, New Jersey, and
local Boards of Realtors, and
members of the Garden State
Multiple Listing Service
(MLS), Hudson County MLS
and the New Jersey MLS of
which they are ranked in the
top 2% of closed transactions.

panies in Northern New
Jersey, Coccia also has offices
