Employers and Key Projects: KNOX Video Technologies - Gaithersburg, MD / Senior Designer * Responsible for all mechanical designs and PCB layouts for entire product line of "Audio/Video Router/Switchers". - Mechanical designs consisted of both new and original designs, as well as ex isting product re-designs, first by using AutoCAD and recently by using SolidWor ks Premium. - PCB layouts consisted of multi-layer (4 to 8-layer) designs using both SMT a nd Thru-Hole technologies with 75-Ohm controlled-impedance routing and special a

ttention given for low cross-talk to adjacent tracks. * Recently completed a major "3D" re-design project comprising of a 12-U (21" hi gh) rack-mount card-cage chassis that comprised of 30 different pieces of sheetmetal, all inter-related and they all had to fit together really well. * Worked with a variety of outside vendors in selecting and sourcing components, such as: panel overlays, switches, power supplies, electro-mechanical component s and hardware items and different types of connectors. * Initially used "ALTIUM PCB Designer" to layout video Printed Circuit Boards. A LTIUM has a built-in "impedance calculator" which made determining track widths for 75-Ohm routes on different layers fairly easy. Moved up to CADENCE "OrCAD PC B Editor" when MOOG Aerospace purchased KNOX Video. SMITHS Detection, Inc. - Edgewood, MD / Senior Designer Biological, Chemical, Radiological & Toxic Agent Hazardous Material Detection Eq uipment & Systems * Processed mostly unusable GERBER files using CAM350 into updated and usable GE RBER files, allowing new circuit boards to be fabricated. Original files were pu rchased by SMITHS Detection and were designed without using PCB Designers. * Analyzed R&D prototype enclosure to determine cable and wiring needs. Then cre ated cable assembly drawings using AutoCAD for both documentation purposes and f or fabrication by outside cable assembly companies. * Specified various Electro-mechanical components, such as: switches, connectors , cables, wires and crimp terminals. Sourced and worked with a variety of outsid e vendors to have switches customized to meet certain electrical and mechanical functions, as well as military and the IP68 specification and in having these sw itches custom fabricated. PATS Aircraft, LLC - Georgetown, DE / Senior PCB Designer Custom Aircraft Interiors and Avionics Fuel-Systems Electronics * Designed new and re-designed various old circuit boards for commercial aircraf t avionics. Re-designs involved updating old circuit boards using "Thru-Hole" te chnology to ones using "Surface-Mount Technology", resulting in one project that had used three separate circuit boards into being reduced to a single circuit b oard. Another project that had used four circuit boards was re-designed down int o two inter-connecting circuit boards. Significant cost savings were realized. * Extensive use of "copper pours" on both my new designs and especially on the r e-designs resulted in significant reductions of "EMI / RFI" emissions. One re-de sign project resulted in well over 20dB of EMI/RFI noise reduction at 24-MHz, a problem frequency within the avionics electronics. * Designed 5 custom flex-circuits simultaneously. These flex-circuits eliminated all of the discrete wiring from a connectorized motherboard to a power supply, a front-panel LED display and two military-style ITT-CANNON "rack and panel" co nnectors, each containing 40 separate I/O circuits. * Assisted in the mechanical design and electronics packaging of my new PCB layo uts into the avionics enclosures. * Assisted in specifying and sourcing Electro-mechanical components, such as: co nnectors, LED's, heatsinks, switches and small electronic enclosures. Becton-Dickinson Diagnostic Systems - Baltimore, MD / Senior Designer Medical Research Diagnostic Equipment * Tasked to "reverse-engineer" and "American-ize" several originally German-desi gned schematics and circuit boards used within a newly developed, advanced techn ology diagnostic system that Becton-Dickinson had purchased from a German-based company. This included extensive researching and vendor sourcing of equivalent A merican components for European ones, while addressing a variety of design issue s. * After developing an entirely new "Bill of Materials" and re-capturing the Germ

an schematics into a more easily read set of "American-ized" OrCAD schematics, t hen re-designed all of the German circuit boards into new PCB layouts using the OrCAD "Layout Plus" PCB design software. * Performed the mechanical design of a "relay-switchover" enclosure that allows the equipment to function on both American 120VAC, as well as the European 220VA C systems. * Traced out all of the German system wiring from scratch and created a "System Wiring Diagram" using AutoCAD. iBIQUITY DIGITAL CORPORATION -- Columbia, MD / Senior Design Consultant Developer of "High-Definition" Digital Radio Broadcasting Technology * Designed all rack chassis, brackets and panels for "GEN2 Laboratory Reference Design" of Digital Radio Broadcast Exciter, Processor, and Receiver. Teamed with a variety of outside vendors to meet project goals on-time. Performed the layou t design of all in-house Printed Circuit Board layouts; transmitted CAM350 files to ensure faster, more accurate transfer of design data to PCB fabrication vend ors. * Selected a large majority of external vendors (components, metalwork and PCB f abrication) and maintained excellent vendor relationships to expedite developmen t of customized components and progress of purchase orders. *** Specialized Contract Design Assignments *** * 3eti, Inc. --- An engineering & research firm under contract by NASA and The U .S. Navy to design and develop "proof of concept" engineering prototypes.
