Episode Four Mole Diary
Mole Persona
Picking up from last round, the dossier‐withholding phase of the plan has come to an
end. Travis posted on the message boards, most likely in response to player complaints,
that there is no advantage for players to not trade bio information. And, fitting with my
persona of a stupid n00b, I complied. Entirely pre‐planned, mind you. However, I
complied very hesitantly, saying that I didn’t see WHY this was a good strategy, and
being paranoid, making the other player send me their information first.
Here’s another n00b idea that came up, most experienced players don’t tend to post
“Could I be the mole? I AM THE MOLE!” in a public forum. And most moles don’t have
the balls to do it. Travis suggested that I attempt it, so my blog contains a handful of
quotes about how “I survived because I’m the mole.” It was true, but it was primarily a
phrase to look new to gaming and not look like the mole. Apparently, it was effective,
because Ginger fell for it and doesn’t think that I’m the mole anymore, with that blog
post being a big reason.
Also, when the challenges fell flat this round, my blog post contained numerous minor
attacks at Travis and his games, distancing me from him. Again, minor points, this is
hardly outstanding mole strategy, but sometimes it’s the little things that help. The real
mole strategy comes out in Phase Three, which I am anxiously awaiting. I’ll address this
in a minute, but with the strategies this round, there wasn’t much room for exceptional
strategy.

Challenge Strategy
Random Generator (Challenge 4.1) was an easy sabotage—if you could even call it that.
Travis warned me that the largest offered amount for this random slot machine of
values would be the second one he says. Knowing that this value is $3.50, I suggested
we stop whenever it gets to $4.00 encouraging everyone that it must reach at least
$4.00. It didn’t.
In the Hangman game (Challenge 4.2), all the team had to do was correctly answer four
hangman puzzles. When Travis told me the second word was SPINACH, I immediately
encouraged people to guess RSTLNE, the most used letters in the English language. And,
in all honestly, these six letters could have potentially won us any of the four puzzles…
except for SPINACH. And thus, we lost, but out of the kindness of Travis’ heart, we still
earned a dollar from bonus puzzle.
Trust Falls (Challenge 4.3) was another very basic challenge which only offered
opportunities for very basic sabotage. As soon as Travis explained the challenge, I was
hypercritical of its simplicity, suggesting that everyone would pick BETRAY, keeping
money out of the pot, earning individual mole points. Doing so kept one dollar out of
the pot, and being so boisterous about my opinion was in hopes of encouraging others
to follow suit.
For The Word Game (Challenge 4.4), I did not want to facilitate Ginger getting any more
Mole Bucks in the case that she were to survive until the Exemption Auction, a few
episodes down the line, hence stopping the challenge early before enough money was
lost. So I left short after every time she requested we work together for bonuses.
Now, in hindsight, I can’t say there is any brilliant mole strategy or sabotage this round
to be proud of, for the pure fact that the challenges didn’t allot it. I do hope to better
the techniques of my sabotage in the future, but only when the nature of the game
allows for it.

Competitor Analysis
Player 01 (Mitch): There seems to be a pattern going here with losing activity for a
round and then falling victim to the execution.
Player 03 (Jill): Jill was a blast to talk to during the live challenge, and I’m hoping that
building this friendly bond with her is convincing her that I’m not the mole, or at the
very least, giving me a good opening to convince her I’m not the mole at a later point.
Right now, however, I am maintaining absolute secrecy from everyone in regards to
strategy. I don’t want to share anything because I am maintaining that I am a paranoid
n00b wanting to work this game out on my own for my first time playing it. Perhaps this
inexperienced outlook will keep her off of my trail.
Player 05 (Ginger): From what I hear, Ginger is starting to jump on the Brian Is the Mole
bandwagon. Her days are probably numbered. It’s a shame, though, because she seems
pretty dedicated.
Player 06 (Breaux): I have to say, for avoiding GChat for quite a while, Breaux’s sense of
humor is unbelievably entertaining. I really enjoy his presence in the game. He’s been
free to talk to me a number of times but hasn’t, and it looks like in the long run, that
may hurt him.
Player 07 (Blaise): Not much to say this round, I guess.
Player 10 (Brian): If you’ve been following the previous Mole Diaries, you should be
aware that I absolutely do not want to let David beat me in this game again. However,
voting 10/10 for me on the quiz in the second round seems like he is dead set on
targeting me and winning the game. Travis even suggested that, similar to Padraig
strongly suspecting David early on in OMC3, there isn’t much I can do to sway him from
his nearly confirmed suspicions. And, moving on, perhaps I can find a way to use his
survival to my advantage. He and Jill seem like two pretty big mole candidates right
now, so them staying in the game is only benefitting me.
Player 12 (Paul): All of his confessionals appear to be directed right at the mole, and he’s
off base on all of them. It is always an entertaining read though, thanks for that. Also,
even without his little blog tiff with me, his blog posts seem awfully accusatory in spite
of the fact he hasn’t made any big money scores in the challenges, either.
