WORKPAPER

1. Masthead light = Also known as a steaming light. The masthead light is a white light that is visible for an arc extending across the forward 225 of the boat. The chief mate told the electrician that the masthead light it was not working. Where should the masthead light be turned on? We dont have any spare bulbs for the masthead light. Could we use the masthead lights when we arrive in port? We have not been using the masthead lights since it was repaired. 2. Muster point = a place where everyone in an area or on a boat is ordered to go when there is an emergency Everyone must go the Muster point. Its everyone at the Master point. They have not arrived in time at the Master point. They have to be equipped before they arrive at the Master point. They had to go to the Master point when the Alarm started. 3. Switchboard = One or more panels accommodating control switches, indicators, distribute electricity, and other apparatus for operating electric circuits. The second engineer saw that from the back of the switchboard it was smoke coming out. They had to do the yearly overhaul to the switchboard. They will have to make all the panels from the switchboard work well before the ship leaves the shipyard. The chief engineer told the fitter to clean the switchboard before the inspection come on board. 4. Circuit-breaker = is an automatically operated electrical switch designed to

protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overload or short circuit. Its basic

function is to detect a fault condition and, by interrupting continuity, to immediately discontinue electrical flow. The electrical officer is changing the circuit breaker because its not working in good parameters. They have to order a new circuit breaker in the next port. One of the circuit breaker is making bad noise. They had to change the circuit breaker because yesterday it was smoke coming from it. Do we need to change the circuit breaker now, because I have another important thing to do now? 5. Integrated circuit = a circuit of transistors, resistors, and capacitor constructed on a single semiconductor wafer or chip, in which the components are interconnected to perform a given function. An integrated circuit needs to be changed due to the faulty working. We need to order a new circuit board because the integrated circuit is solder to it and its hard to replace it. They had to change the integrated circuit because it was damaged due to bad atmospheric conditions. They realize that the integrated circuit is missing from the circuit board. 6. Relay = A device that responds to a small current or voltage change by activating switches or other devices in an electric circuit. Did the new installed relay work like the previous one? How many relays do we have to order in the next port, due to the bad function of the onboard relays? I need to replace the relay with another one which has different specs from the original. They have brought a lot of relays on board but none of them is what I ordered. 7. Contactor = is an electrically controlled switch used for switching a power circuit, similar to a relay except with higher current ratings. A contactor is controlled by a circuit which has a much lower power level than the switched circuit. I realized after three days that contactor was the problem. We need to change the contactor of the winch so that it can work in good condition. We have been using that damaged contactor for three months. They had to change the contactor, because it had rust on it. 8. Radar = is an object-detection system which uses electromagnetic waves

specifically radio wavesto determine the range, altitude, direction, or speed of both moving and fixed objects.

The radar overhaul wasnt made according to the book specification. They realize that the radar moving speed is lower than normal. The radar had not been used till yesterday because we were in port. A service guy will come tomorrow to repair the broken radar due to its damage by the storm. 9. Reefer = is a type of ship typically used to transport perishable commodities which require temperature-controlled transportation, meat, mostly fruits, fish, vegetables, dairy products and other foodstuffs. We have encountered some problem with one reefer container but our technician has solved the problem. The electrician realizes that the reefer needs more Freon to start working in its parameters. I have to discharge the new loaded refer because its not working in good parameters. The meat reefer chamber is making ice on its evaporate coil, so we need to make a manual defrost. 10. Lifeboat = is a small, rigid or inflatable watercraft carried for emergency evacuation in the event of a disaster aboard ship. In the military, a lifeboat may be referred to as a whaleboat, dinghy, or gig. Next week we need to launch the lifeboat to the water to check if its working in good condition. They had to make a rigorous inspection to the lifeboat because one battery exploded when they wanted to start the boat. One of the lifeboats has the electrical installation in bad condition, so we need to call the offshore technicians to repair it. The lifeboat from the port-side needs a rigorous clean before we arrive in the next port.
