The Manhattan Project, which produced the atomic bomb, manifested the largest, most competitive and revolutionary

global arms race which reformed later threats of war. It impacted the history of war which reverberated up to the present day. We chose this topic since it affected global conflicts in the past and then reformed future wars. Both of us agreed this topic fit with the theme exceedingly well. The research we conducted occurred in many places, including Kansas Universitys Watson Library, Seamans Library, and the Topeka and Shawnee Countys Public Library. While at the KU library we perused the stacks and discovered some relevant sources. At the Topeka library we checked out many books which were essential to our research. We collected our secondary sources first and then our primary sources. Once we gathered them all, we focused more on the primary sources to make our project truer to the time and more accurate. Some of our research was done on the computer as well, and many of our primary sources came from credible websites, including previously classified documents and memorandums. We decided to do a website to represent our project because we wanted to explore and build on our basic knowledge of technology. Creating a website seemed like a direct way to learn more about how to produce and maneuver through more complicated sites. Together we have made a website that includes pictorial information that was helpful to the presentation of the Manhattan Project. We used photographs from the actual time period and of the scientists at the site of the Trinity Test and other important locations. We felt, by creating a website, it helped the environment as it does not waste paper and can be viewed anywhere. Furthermore, we felt it would best display our knowledge of our topic.

The Manhattan Project is revolutionary because it was the first bomb of mass destruction ever conceived and, more importantly, produced. Creating this weapon was also very controversial because of how potentially devastating it could be. The atomic bomb greatly impacted the death toll during World War II. It also ended the conflict between the United States and Japan more quickly with the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Due to the tremendous impact of the bombs, America felt morally obligated to help rebuild the country and keep its economy going. The long term impacts militarily were the bomb itself and the eventual evolved version, the Hydrogen bomb. The bomb helped with the Cuban missile crisis, when Russia supposedly transported nuclear weapons to Cuba and aimed them at the United States. President Kennedy aimed our own weapons of mass destruction and due to the deadlock of arms; both countries ceased the threat of war. During this time deadly arms became increasingly popular and were pursued by countries with the money and capability to produce them. Scientifically and medically the bomb ensured war would be more deadly and would require cures for the diseases which broke out as a cause of radiation exposure.
