PLANTS AT HINDALCO

Hindalco Industries at Renukoot has six units of plant Alumina Plant Reduction Plant Fabrication Plant Utilities Plant Commercial / Other Plant Project Division Plant

Other than this Hindalco owns captive Bauxite area in Bihar & Madhya Pradesh. It has its own captive power plant production 750MW of power and another co-generation plant at site producing 25MW of power. Nearly 25% of this production is exported to various countries.

Summary of Alumina Plant

The extraction of Alumina is accomplished through a conventionl Bayers process. Bauxite is crushed in stages and wet grinding is done to obtain bauxite slurry. Desilicated and pre heated bauxite slurry is pumped into the disgesters where alumina content of bauxite is dissolved into coustic solution at desired conditions. The digested flashed slurry is pumped to clarification area foe pergnant liquor is plumped to precipition circuit to obtain Tri-Hydrate. The classified Alumina Tri-Hydrate slurrly is filtered and is fed into energy efficient Calciners to finally get Alumina Powder. In the final stage of Aluminium production, Calcined Alumina is smelted into molted primary aluminium in rows of electrolytic cell known as Potlines.

Summary of Reduction Plant

Alumina form Alumina Plant is conveyed to the reduction plant. We have potlines, all are pre-backed lines having pot cells. Electrolysis of the Alumina takes place in the molten bath of cryolite at a temperature of 995 to 960C. The molten Aluminium that collects at the cathode is siphoned into crucible periodically. The entire system is controlled by microprocessor system. In order to control pollution due to emission of flurine gas, dry scrubbing system has been installed on pots through which the emittedd fluorine is collected and sent to alumina silo. Daily production is about 750mt. For meeting the requirement to anode in potroom anodes are manufactured in carbon plant 1968 at present. Each pot cell has 24/26 carbon anodes and it is lines with carbon cathodes. Aluminium is converted to metallic Aluminium in these pot cells by the standards Hall Heroult process. The pot cell work on an average 4.3 Volt D.C. current of 58000/63000amps. Electrolysis of Alumina.

Summary of Fabrication Plant

Here Aluminium is fabricated into two semi and fully finished shapes, such as properzi rods, billets, ingots extraction and rolled products. Hindalco fabrication plant produces all sorts of aluminium alloys product as per the market demand. Its major customer includes Indian defense establishment, Indian railways, Indian Power grid corporation, minerals and metal division export oriented order and various local customers.
