SPEAK, LORD, WE ARE LISTENING

In todays first reading God keeps calling out in the night to a sleeping boy. Neither the boy, Samuel, nor his teacher, Eli, understands who is calling. But Gods persistence convinces them. Samuel is then ready not ready yet to do anything, but ready to listen. Speak, for your servant is listening (1 Samuel 3:10). In the Gospel Jesus is out teaching. Various people notice him and begin to gather around. They soon become disciples and, like the young Samuel, are readynot ready yet to do anything, but ready to listen. Speak, they say, we are listening. Gods voice is always with us, awake or asleep. It swirls around us like fog on a waterfront, enveloping us, gently urging us to wake up, to listen. Awareness of the voice comes first; then willingness to listen; then, in time, the decision to act, to live according to Gods word. Lets ask today for the ability to keep our ears open so we dont miss Gods voice.

A few weeks ago Father Michael Zoufal spoke after all the Masses about supporting our military veterans suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) by donating to our PTSD service dog training program. Thanks to your donations, we were able to raise enough to buy an obedience trained German Shepherd named LOBO. Next weekend at the noon Mass, military veteran Sgt. Brad Schwarz will be here to personally thank all the parishioners for making this possible. Sgt. Schwarz and Lobo will now continue the service dog training together as a team. Brad said, you have no idea how much you have helped him. We would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts. Thanks be to God. Vic & Pam Barnett PAWWS PAWS Assisting Wounded Warriors.

Every year, close to the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul on January 25, and before the feast of the Chair of St. Peter on February 22, the cause of Church unity is commended to Christians everywhere. Sadly, Protestants, Orthodox, and Catholics have settled to a status quo of separation. When baptized people become Catholic, we speak of them as being received into full communion. That means we already share a communion in faith in many ways, including the Word of God. Many Protestant denominations have received and revised the three-year cycle of readings first arranged by Catholics in the early 1970s. Therefore, many of your neighbors who are not Catholic are celebrating and reflecting on the same readings we are savoring on most Sundays of the year. This makes for a new spirit of cooperation among preachers of the gospel, and gives hope that the cause of reunion, desired by Christ, has great vitality at the table of Gods Word, and will one day lead to unity at the table of the Lords Body and Blood.

WYBR I POWOANIE Powoanie Andrzeja i Jana, pierwszych uczniw i apostow, byo do prozaiczne. Natomiast nadanie nowego imienia Szymonowi byo ju czym wyjtkowym wymownym i symbolicznym; mia bowiem by opok Kocioa. Nasze powoanie do wiary Chrystusowej te byo proste. W niemowlctwie zaniesiono nas do kocioa i tam dokona si akt naszego powoania i wybrania. Wszyscy zostalimy powoani do wiary Chrystusowej, do Kocioa, do czerpania z ask Zbawiciela. I z tego powodu winnimy by dumni, a take wdziczni, e Chrystus i Koci obdarowuj nas nowym yciem, ucz i wychowuj. Szczeglnie wdziczni winnimy by my, Polacy, gdy Koci sta si dla nas ostoj wiary i narodowej jednoci. Przez tysic lat z niej czerpalimy si i moc, zapa i mstwo w zmaganiach. To spord nas wyszli wici Maksymilian i Faustyna, Prymas Tysiclecia, ksidz mczennik Jerzy Popieuszko i wreszcie najwikszy z rodu Polakw suga Boy Jan Pawe II. ks. Zbigniew Godlewski
