Hubie Brown vs box and 1

1 Hubie Brown The zone is watching the ball, so one option is that guarded player 2 uses the two back defenders as screeners, he is not involved in the offence.

2 Another option is to stack on one side. 2 uses the stack trying to get open.

3 1 dribbles at the gap between the two top defenders, passes to 4, steps back.

4 1 gets a pass back from 4, drives right at X3 to freeze him, then looks to pass to 3 using a downscreen from 5. 3 can look for 5 inside, e.g., sealing X5. Attacking a triangle and two - put the two guarded players on the blocks and use a two-guard front with one wing. Blaine Taylor - against a box and one or triangle and two, run a man play, set the screens, read it, do what you do.

1 Basketball Highway These are set plays to run if the regular zone attack is not giving the "scorer" (defended man to man) enough good looks (a) 5 is the scorer: 1 splits the top two defenders and passes to 3.

2 3 passes back to 1, who dribbles to the right as 3 downscreens for 5 On the next series, 4 and 2 also screen for 5.

3 (b) 2 is the scorer: 1 passes to 2 and follows for a handback (or dribble clears if 2 is overplayed).

4 2 cuts off screens by 4 and 5 for a pass from 3. Come-back option - 2 cuts into the lane off 4, 4 turns and re-screens, 2 comes back out to the corner for a pass from 3.

5 5 steps out to the short corner. On ball reversal, 2 cuts to the other side using a screen from 4. Variations - 5 ballscreens for 2 - 2 passes to 3, cuts into the lane off 5, comes back out to the corner for a pass from 3.

6 On ball reversal, 2 again runs the baseline using 4 and 5, or comes back out to the corner.

4 c) Most effective approach. 2 and 1 cut up and down the sidelines, the unguarded players play an inverted triangle game.

2 On the pass to 3, 1 and 2 set screens on two interior zone players, an elbow screen weakside and a baseline screen ballside.

3 1 and 2 must open up wide after screening, allowing the ball to be passed to 5 if 4 does not have a shot.

5 Any ball reversal to the corner requires high post give and go cut to the basket. This forces the top zone defender to sink temporarily helping to create a high post opening for the weakside cutter filling behind.

6 If 1 and 2 are unable to initiate the attack, the best interior ball handler brings the ball up and enter the offence with a second high post stepping out.
