A Few Facts: ~Prescription drug abuse is a rising public health problem on the national level and has reached epidemic level in Ohio ~Ohios death rate due to unintentional drug poisoning has increased more than 350 percent from 1999 to 2008, and is now the leading cause of injury death in Ohio ~Approximately four people died each day in Ohio due to drug overdose. (2006-2009) ~ In 2010, about 12 million Americans (age 12 or older) reported nonmedical use of prescription painkillers in the past year ~ Enough prescription painkillers were prescribed in 2010 to medicate every American adult around-the-clock for a month ~ Deaths from accidental overdose of prescription drugs now exceeds the deaths from auto accidents ~ Its not just adults; students in junior high school, high school, and college are being affected by prescription drug abuse and misuse. In fact, 4 out of the top 5 drugs abused by 12th graders are prescription or non-prescription medications. In 2007, 26.5% of high school students reported using a prescription drug without a prescription one or more times in their life ~2.7% of 8th graders, 7.7% of 10th graders, and 8.0% of 12th graders had abused Vicodin and 2.1% of 8th graders, 4.6% of 10th graders, and 5.1% of 12th graders had abused OxyContin for nonmedical purposes ~ Ross County Coroner's Office has recorded 23 confirmed accidental drug overdose deaths in 2011

The longer the addiction persists, the harder it is to deal with... But there is another; much more common is an addiction to Pharmaceutical Pills. ~This is a different type of addiction.
