Overview

This document contains instructions (followed by the screen shots) for any instructor using Elseviers new instructor site, textbooks.elsevier.com. By registering at this site, you will be able to browse for books in your area, and Access exclusive textbooks companion material View the full text online Request paper-based inspection copies, and Check on the status of your requests.

Functionality

This user guide will walk you through the steps for Getting access to a subject area for browsing Requesting a print copy of a textbook Obtaining access to e-inspection books Requesting instructor materials, and Checking the status of your requests. In order to browse for books, youll need to register for access to the appropriate subject areas. The table below describes the steps in that process.

Action Enter the site address: textbooks.elsevier.com, and hit Enter. Result : You are at the Home Page for the site. Scroll down to the Registration area, and Click on Register to Use, to the Registration form. Complete the form, noting that required fields are preceded by a red asterisk, and Click on GO, which will bring you to My Desktop, as well as alert your textbook representative to your request. Note: You will be prompted for any missing or incorrect information. You will receive an email message from your textbook representative, approving the request and granting you access.

My Desktop

Once you have registered and been approved, you may select from the following options on the My Desktop page: Find out who your Elsevier sales rep is, and email the rep right from this screen Browse by subject area (the books are in chronological order by publication date; you may change the order by clicking author, title or ISBN) View electronic copies of books Request print copies of books Check on the status of your request, and Alert Elsevier about your decision to adopt one of our books. You may locate a particular title by browsing through a subject area, described in the table below. Note: For security reasons, access is granted to one subject area at a time. If you have an interest in more than one subject, youll want to request access for any additional areas individually. Step 1 2 3 4 Action Click on the subject area of interest. Find the book you would like to review by searching or scrolling. Click on the title, which will bring you to that books page. You may choose the following options at this point: Add this title to your Desktop by clicking on Add to Desk. Request a print copy of the book. View an online version of the book if available. Report that you are adopting the book. View any accompanying instructor materials.

Request a print copy

Requesting a print copy of the book will entail your completing the form, and submitting it by clicking Go. Note: This information is required in order to validate the request, ensuring that students cannot attempt to secure instructor materials.

View a book onlin e

If a text is available for viewing online, you can request it by clicking on the e-inspection copy link beneath Online Copy. (If electronic files are not available, you will not see online viewing as an option.) Result: The screen will contain the cover of the textbook on the right, with the chapters listed on the left. Once you click the + sign to the left of the chapter heading, the text content for that chapter will appear.

Adopting the book

By reporting your decision to adopt an Elsevier title, you will qualify for additional resources and materials. You can report the adoption by clicking on the link beneath Register Your Adoption, Send an email request.

Result: This selection will bring you to a blank Outlook email message template, addressed to your textbook representative. If you need any other information or materials in support of this adoption, you will want to provide that information in this email.
Accompanying Instr uctor mate rials

Some Elsevier textbooks are accompanied by instructor support materials. If the textbook you are reviewing has these materials, you will see options in the right sidebar called Companion Material Available or Instructor Manual Available. Click on the appropriate selection and follow the prompts.

My Request Statu s

You can use this site for checking on the status of any review copies you have requested by clicking on the My Request Status tab. All of your requests will be listed with the textbook title, the current status, and the date of your request. If you have any questions about any of these requests, just send an email to your textbook representative, whose email is provided in the left sidebar.
