‘Commitment to Excellence’
Henry Bartell “Pat” Zachry founded Zachry Construction in
1924. The company’s first job was a $40,000 Laredo bridge
construction project for the Texas Highway Department.
The company did projects mainly for the department
until the Great Depression hit, and then it performed a
variety of work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and
the U.S. Agriculture Department, as well as various build-
ing construction jobs in order to stay operational.
During World War II, the company performed $50 mil-
lion of defense work for the Armed Forces, it says.
Then, from 1945 to 1955, Zachry’s annual revenues
increased from $2 million to $30 million.
