The Damage Is Done


Another 7 days of no rain for Central Argentina. Thursdays anticipated rains for S Cordoba, La Pampa and S Buenos Aires are now expected to be a non-event, however every little bit of moisture will be appreciated (0.01-0.25). The damage has likely been done across most of C Argentina, with some saying the drying there has been the worst since 1906. Isolated areas has seen no rain at all in September and December, and far below normal totals in October and November.

December rains were minimal in the heart of Argentinas Corn Belt, hitting Cordoba (26% corn/29% beans), N Buenos Aires (27% corn/20% beans) and Santa Fe (12% corn/28% beans).

Thursday and Fridays rains have been curtailed. Modeled relief for southern areas has been cut in half by the 06z GFS run, and rains do not make it into key central and eastern areas until the middle of next week.

Next weeks rainsrains initially show as spotty but locally heavy next Wednesday and Thursday, the heaviest heading for far western areas. 0.50-1.25 inches is seen for parts of Entre Rios, Buenos Aires and Cordoba, with Santa Fe initially seeing the least. The second round of rain then begins on Saturday, the 14th.

The next 7-days will see a spreading out of the heat across Argentina being above normal in all but the NW and coastal Buenos Aires.
