General
In order to direct-measurement of temperature, the Pro_N relays can be customized through external auxiliary MPT modules. Eight Pt100 inputs are acquired by Pro_N devices to provide data for 26 and/or 49 thermal protective functions. The Pt100 sensors (Pt is the symbol for platinum) are the most common devices used in industry have a nominal resistance of 100 ohms at 0 C. For electric machine protections, for instance, Pt100s are used to detect the operating temperatures in areas where overheating or head damage are can occur, for instance: Near the stator windings of generators Inside windings and/or oil of the transformers Near bearing of rotating machines Air-Cooled

THYBUS

In a typical applications, the protective relay is located a large distance (hundreds of meters in some cases) from the protected apparatus; to avoid long, expensive, multiconductor cable between the probes and the measuring circuit in the relay, the Thybus high-speed serial bus is employed. The MPT supports shielded three-wire probes, providing terminals for PTx, MPTx, and return leads (x=1...8); three wire provides a means for lead-resistance compensation. Shielding should be connected to the Ground terminal (MPT side). The MPT module is powered directly by Thybus port, so external auxiliary supply must not be provided.
