Killap's Fallout 2 Restoration Project - Version 2. 1.

2b (Manual Install) ============ Information: ============ The purpose of this project is to add back into Fa llout 2 all the missing content (locations, NPCs, items, etc) that were pulled or left unfinished in the original game. This expansion attempts to sta y true to what made Fallout great and thus the new content you find is not something I felt that wou ld be cool to see, but rather a reality of what th e original devs wanted. I admit that I had to make some judgment calls here and there, but the core of what you will see is something originally thoug ht up by the Fallout 2 devs. I hope you enjoy this expansion and you are able to get even more great ness out of Fallout 2. If you have any questions/c omments feel free to e-mail me at "sniper@madd-net .net" You can also find me on the No Mutants Allow ed forum found at http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum / If you cannot reach me by e-mail, I suggest post ing there. Thanks and enjoy! Note: Previous save games before using this expans ion will no longer work. You will have to start a new game! Note2: The manual install already comes bundled wi th Mash's Resolution Patch and Appearance Mod. DO NOT install these separately! Note3: For non English users, you may need to renam e the: \data\Text\English folder to whatever language you are using, such as German, in order to play. **This is only needed if your language was not a n option in the installer or all the new NPCs are giving "ERROR" dialogues.** ==================== Manual Installation:

============= ====== The folder that contains this readme should also c ontain a folder titled "main". This is the folder that contains all the fixes and files needed to ru n this mod. Copy the contents of this directory to your main Fallout 2 directory (the one that conta ins fallout2.exe, etc). If you used the default se tup, your Fallout 2 installation directory should be located at C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2. Say yes to overwrite the files if Windows asks. O nce copied, you should now have a folder called "d ata" in your Fallout 2 directory and when you go i nside it, there should be a bunch of folders calle d "Art," "Data," "Maps," "Proto," etc. You should also have the directories "Appearance" and "f2_res " in the directory where "data" is. There are three other folders that come with this mod. One is called "Windows 95-98-ME", the next is called "Windows NT-2000" and the last is "Windows XP-VISTA-7". Open up one (and ONLY ONE) depending on the version of Windows you are running. Copy a ll the contents (files and folder) to your main Fa llout 2 directory (the one that contains fallout2. exe, etc). Say yes to overwrite the files if Windo ws asks. You should now see three files, ddraw.dll (or sfall.dll depending on your Windows version), ddraw.ini and Elevators.ini, in the main director y where the fallout2.exe is also found. The final folder that comes with this mod is calle d "batch_work". Copy the contents of this director y to your main Fallout 2 directory. Once copied, d ouble click "f2.bat" from its new location. You sh ould see a black window come up. It will go away a fter a few seconds. Note that these files need to modify the master.dat file. It is highly recommend ed that you install the humongous version of Fallo ut 2, or at the very least copy master.dat from th e CD over to your Fallout 2 directory. The last thing you must do, and this is EXTREMELY

important, is to delete a file called "patch000.da t" from your main Fallout 2 directory if it is the re. If you are running the 1.0 version of the game , then this file will not be found and you can ign ore this comment. However, if you are running a pr e-patched version of the game, you must remove thi s file prior to starting a new game. If you run in to problems installing, I highly suggest downloadi ng the installer version of my mod, which will do all of this automatically for you. If you do choos e this manual route, check the FAQ below for detai ls regarding whether the mod is indeed installed c orrectly or not. Enjoy! The manual install already comes bundled with Mash 's Resolution Patch and Appearance Mod. DO NOT ins tall these separately! =========================== Frequently Asked Questions: =========================== Q: Do I need to install the official 1.02 patch or your unofficial patch as well? A: No. All the fixes found in the official and unof ficial patch are already included. Q: Can I use official 1.02 patch saves or your unof ficial patch saves with this mod? A: No, sadly you cannot. Any save game made before using this mod is not compatible. All future vers ions, however, are compatible with previous versio ns of my work unless otherwise noted. Q: How do I know if this mod is installed correctly ? A: There is a small rock at the beginning of the g ame. This rock is found just outside the Temple of Trials behind Klint. Looking at the rock should d isplay some text and give the version of the mod y ou are running. In addition, you should see a vers ion number in the lower right corner of the main m

enu to the game. You must see both the rock and a version number on the main menu to be 100% sure th e patch is installed correctly. Q: I have a version of the game that had children removed. Do I need to apply a separate patch to fi x this? A: No. My unofficial patch already includes the mis sing children frms. Q: On startup, Fallout 2 crashes with a 'Failure in itializing input devices' error A: Go to your Fallout 2 directory and look for a f ile called ddraw.ini. In the [input] section, chan ge BackgroundKeyboard to 1 and see if that fixes t he error. If it doesn't, change BackgroundMouse to 1 too. Q: I'm getting black screens/psychedelic colour sch emes A: Go to your Fallout 2 directory and look for a f ile called ddraw.ini. In the [Graphics] section, c hange Mode to 4. Q: Fallout refuses to run, displaying the message 'Fallout appears to be running in compatibility mo de' A: Turn compatibility mode settings off. Do this b y right clicking fallout2.exe, switching to the co mpatibility tab and unchecking everything. Q: I don't like the speed I am moving on the world map. It's too fast/too slow. How can I change thi s? A: Map movement speed was a troubling issue before but has now been effectively addressed. The issue before was a result of the speed of your CPU and thus the faster clock speed you have, the faster y ou would move across the map. This has been addres sed though and the setting used in this mod should be much like the speed that was originally intend ed with computers of the late 1990s. If you feel t

hings are still too slow or too fast now, this can easily be changed. Go to your Fallout 2 directory and look for a file called ddraw.ini. Search for something called "WorldMapDelay2=" If you did not alter this already, it should say "WorldMapDelay2= 66" Changing it to a higher value will make things go slower and changing it to a lower value will s peed things up. If the map is still stuttering for you even after lowering the value, make sure Worl dMapFPSPatch, WorldMapFPS and WorldMapDelay are al l set to 0. Q: How do I change the resolution of the game? A: Thanks to Mash's resolution patch you can final ly play Fallout 2 at resolutions higher than 640x4 80. To change the resolution, you must be at the m ain menu of the game. Go to Options and then click the "SCRN" button at the top of the screen. You m ust check the box "Restart Game" to have your chan ges be applied to the game. Q: I'm using the new appearance mod and my charact er is spinning too quickly/slowly on the inventory and character screens. Can I modify the rotation speed? A: Sure. Go to your Fallout 2 directory and look f or a file called ddraw.ini. Search for something c alled "SpeedInventoryPCRotation=" The default valu e is 220. Larger values make it slower, smaller va lues make it faster. Q: I don't like some of the options I chose in the installer. Can I go back and change them? A: Many of the options you picked in the installer you change at any time. Go to your Fallout 2 dire ctory and look for a file called ddraw.ini. Look t hrough it for any options you wish to modify. "Ena bleHeroAppearanceMod=", "DamageFormula=" and "NPCA utoLevel=" are some of the options you could have set via the RP installer. The file is well documen ted, so it is pretty easy to tell what each option will do to

your game. However, I suggest only making changes to this file is you really know what your doing or were told to make a specific change. Q: I'm stuck on this one quest. Help me! A: Morticia and others have compiled a detailed wa lkthrough for my work. You can access it here: htt p://numerometria.com/F2RP_WT.htm ================= Acknowledgements: ================= Without the use of Per's Fallout 2 walkthrough I would not have been able to pinpoint the majority of the bugs fixed in my patch.
