SIMOTRAS HD: The smooth solution for slip-ring motors Standard drives with ratings up to 250 kW as commonly used to power overhead traveling cranes, for example often rely on slip-ring motors and stepped rotor resistors. They generally have contactor control circuits with control characteristics adapted to a particular application. Drives of this type are robust and reliable and will last for years. The downside is that those torque peaks at each step put a strain on operators and materials, on the crane cables and the mechanical linkages. Sooner or later the decision has to be taken: should you make a targeted and coordinated modernization or wait until theres no other choice than to make a complete replacement? SIMOTRAS HD is the optimum drive control for slip-ring motor-based crane applications to ensure cost-effective modernization and a fast Return On Investment. Together with accompanying devices and controllers you can easily create a modern and efcient drive system. Refurbishment can be that easy SIMOTRAS HD controllers are three-phase power converters employing high-quality variable speed control of your installed drive system. Once the drive has been modernized, its characteristics will be almost equivalent to those of variable DC or AC drive systems. Refurbishments with SIMOTRAS HD are easy to congure, without having to renew basic system components such as motors, main contactors and rotor resistors. SIMOTRAS HD three-phase power converters cover the full range from 60 A to 900 A (higher current ranges can be obtained using a parallel conguration).
