Background of the Conference In India, regional imbalance has been one of the key issues for policy makers and planners. It is found that disparities in social and economic and growth from nuke and corner of the regions and intra-regional disparities among diverse sections of the society have been the major drawbacks for having effective planning process in India since independence focusing on disadvantaged sections. Banking industry has played a major role for inclusive growth investing a huge amount of money in backward regions on different sectors. While efforts to reduce regional disparities were not lacking, achievements were not often commensurate with these efforts. It is found that Considerable level of regional disparities remained still now in many part of the country including Karnataka. It is more in northern part of the Karnataka. Experts feel more economic growth leads more regional disparities. Further, the seriousness of the emerging acute regional imbalances and role of banking sectors here has not yet received public attention and policy makers. Public sector Banks have made a major contribution to the economic growth of the country by creating a diversified industrial base. Banking sector can play more vital role in combating regional imbalance and help for speedy financial inclusion through various investment and credit measures in backward areas of the country. It is proposed that the 12th five year plan is projected to provide an opportunity to restructure economic and banking policies to attain a new dream based on quicker, more broad-based inclusive growth in the country. The Planning Commissions focus on instilling inclusive growth is making headway. The plan is expected to be one that encourages the development of Indias agriculture, education, health and social welfare through government spending. The new plans must seek to decrease disparities across regions and communities by ensuring access to basic physical infrastructure focusing health and education services to all. Also it must make out gender as a cross - cutting theme across all sectors and entrusts to respect and endorse the rights of the last lay of the society. This seminar aimed to relook necessary provision and policies necessary in the 12th five year plan enabling banks to play very constructive and independent role for speedy inclusive growth and remove different social discriminations. The very rationale of this seminar is to initiate a debate on the various issues involved with a view to explore effective corrective measures for speedy inclusive growth. It is also expected to create employment through developing Indias manufacturing sector and move the nation higher up the value chain on bridging the different divides that continue to fragment our society. In this issue banking industrys role is very crucial.
