ore than 4,000 spec-
tators braved the be-
low zero weather on Satur-
day afternoon, December
9th, to witness the Kins-
men sponsored Minnedo-
sa Christmas Parade, and
possibly, with the excep-
tion of a few frostbitten
noses, none had occasion
to regret it.
Santas chariot
was preceded by 28 foats
in the building of which
imagination, creative fan-
cy and inventiveness had
mingled to underline the
main theme of the Yule-
tide and the birth of Christ.
A fock or some 20 clowns
escorted the parade, per-
forming acrobatics and
generally entertaining the
audience.
All local service
clubs and lodges were rep-
resented, the Rotary Club,
the Royal Canadian Le-
gion and their Auxiliary,
the B.P.O.E. and the ladies
of the Royal Purple, the
I.O.O.F. and the Rebekahs,
the Boy Scouts, the Beta
Sigma Phi sorority, had
foats, as well as the Home
and School Association,
the local Collegiate, the
Covenant Young People,
the Anglican Young Peo-
ple, the Minnedosa and
Cordova 4-H Clubs, the
Minnedosa Agricultural
Society, and numerous
private frms and business
establishments.
Te main theme
was Christmas and its
spirit of Peace on Earth,
and it was evident in foats
carrying singing angels,
carolling choirs, Magi, the
Nativity, families sitting in
front of the freplace in a
Yule-decorated room, an
impression of Christmas
Wonderland, reindeer; but
there were also the famil-
iar personages well known
to the little ones: Jack
Spratt, Humpty-Dumpty,
Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs, Red Riding Hood,
Peter Pumpkin and others.
Te parade fol-
lowed a course from the
northern town limits south
on Main Street to 3rd Av-
enue S.W. turning west at
Angels and Choirs, Fairytales and Clowns...
that point and continu-
ing on the avenue to 4th
Street S.W. where it turned
north to 2nd Avenue S.W.
continuing east on the lat-
ter until it reached Main
Street, and back to its point
of departure, the Minn-
Toba Industries of ce. Te
parade was led through its
full length by the Minnedo-
sa Miniature Majorettes
and by the smartly march-
ing Cadet Corps.
After the foats
had returned to base, Santa
established his headquar-
ters in the Armoury where
he dispensed largesse in
the form of 1,500 bags of
candy and innumerable
cups of chocolate milk to
his young admirers.
Prizes were
awarded for the best foats
by a jury composed of the
Revs. K. Boughton, G.A.
Kerr, and Mrs. Alice Lee.
First prize went to the
Home and School foat
which carried a gowned
and surpliced carol-sing-
ing choir, angels, three
young Magi with cam-
els and a representative
piano player with his in-
strument; second went to
the Minnedosa Collegiate
for their representation
of Snow White and the
Seven Dwarfs; third to the
Minnedosa 4-H Beef Calf
Club for a scene of Nativ-
ity. An honourable men-
tion went to the windmill
decorated Dutch scene put
out by Jim Alexander.
And so ended,
in the unanimous opin-
ion of older residents, the
best and most successful
Christmas parade held in
Minnedosa within the last
decade.
A tribute
to the
parade
participants
Te following
appeared in the As
We See it Column of
the December 14th,
1961 edition and was
written by Tribune
Editor, Fred Gadbois.
T
he Santa Claus Pa-
rade last Saturday was
an exceptional success,
in spite of the adverse
weather conditions. It was
so because of the excellent
organization setup by the
sponsoring Kinsmen, and
because of the strong sup-
port they received from
civic, social, and charitable
associations.
All this, however,
good organization, vari-
ety of foats with the work
put into them, would have
been unavailing toward
success had not the foat
occupants shown such
stern sense of duty. To
stand, or sit, for an hour or
so in below zero weather,
to feel yourself gradu-
ally growing number and
number with the cold, and
yet manage a smile and a
wave, requires a lot of de-
termination and courage.
Particularly on the part of
the children, one of whom,
at least, fainted at the end
of the route and had to be
carried of her foat into
the Minn-Toba of ce.
To all of those who
took part in the preparation
and the execution of this
parade; to the clowns, who
drew everybodys pleased
comments, to the drivers,
who must have frequently
felt like rubbing their nose,
to the adults, teenagers
and young children, who
played their part without a
whimper or even a thought
of quitting, our hat is of.
Tey have deserved well of
their community and their
efort has been widely ap-
preciated, as shown by the
thousands of spectators
who watched and admired
the progress of the parade.
We are sure that
the memory of this manifes-
tation will long remain as a
milestone in the towns his-
tory of Santa Claus Parades.
It will prove a very high
mark to shoot at in coming
years.
Well done, Minnedosa!

At Christmas my favorite thing to do is play the
present stealing game. How to play: the game
goes youngest to oldest when it is your turn
you can take a present from the pile or
you can steal a present when you take a
present watch out! Someone can steal your
present when it is their turn! My grandma makes
these yummy snacks called Pigs in a Blanket.
They look like little hot dogs but theyre not.
Maybe mom will bring some indoor snores. They
are good, I hope mom brings some. I knew you
were going to ask about my uncle Terry. Well,
I dont know where to start. Me and my uncle
Terry both stear hay rides and sing thanksgiv-
ing songs on Christmas. Yes on Christmas!
By Robert Sinclair
At Christmas time my favorite thing to do is
having Christmas dinner with my family. I
always go to my Grandmas for Christmas
dinner. I do it on Christmas Day. It is a lot of
fun. A couple of my grandmas friends come over.
My other favourite thing about Christmas is
spending Christmas day with my family.
By Michelle Tulman
At Christmas time my favorite thing to do
is decorate the Christmas tree with my
family. My brother and my mom do it with me.
I bake and frost cookies. My sister Kayla and
Aaron help me bake them. When the family gets
together we play games I cant
remember them though. I make paper
snowflakes. Sometimes mine break but we still
put them on the window. Christmas is Jesuss
birthday and it is also super fun.
By Taylor Hartly
My favorite thing to do at Christmas is I like
to see my sister and my family members. On
Christmas and we have a big Christmas dinner
with our cousins and my Grandma comes over
with our cousins. We have pie and we have fun
with our family members. My cousins and I go
sledding. We play family games like Uno and we
play cards and we have fun.
By Faith Clarke
At Christmas time my favorite thing is
decorating the tree with my family. We
have a fake tree. It goes on by letters. We
usually go to my Grandmas but this year
we are staying home. On Christmas we wake
up and unwrap presents and then we have
dinner. I think we are going to have turkey.
My favourite ornament is all of them that
say my name which is practically all of them.
We also play games. My favorite game is
Battleship and Yatzee. Then on the next day,
Boxing day, is my sisters birthday.
By Robert Tomlinson
At Christmas time my family goes to Grandmas.
We have pie and cake. My favorite thing to
do is go outside and play games. I have lots
of fun with my cousins. We play tag, we run
and we make Christmas crafts. We go to my
aunties too.
By Cecil Fehr
At Christmastime my favorite thing to do is
going sliding. They make a big hill. All the kids
go sliding.
By Reece Andrew
At Christmas time I go to my Grandma Lornnas
or I go to Grandma Lendas we see Grandma,
Papa, Leo, Auntie Desora, Victoia, Harly, Uncle
Steve, Katey, Logen and Auntie Coney. We
go down stairs and play blueberry girl. Its
when the girl is down low and you get a big
bouncey ball and throw it at her. When were at
Grandma Lonnas we put up the Christmas
tree and we see Grandma, Papa, Mattheuw,
Auntie Shell, Uncle Lary, Ava, Jenna, Auntie
Donna, Uncle D, Uncle Kevin, Hidi, Mom, Dad,
Jordyn and I. The game we play is tea.
By Montana Stenson
At Christmas time my favorite thing to do is
go to my Uncle Eddies places and we eat,
play games like Wii, PS3, Tony Hawk skate
boarding on PS3. My whole family comes out.
We go two days before Christmas. It is fun!
I like to decorate the tree too.
By Chase Miller
At Christmas time my favorite thing I do is look
to see if the cookies and milk are still there.
I go to my Aunties house on Christmas Day.
I play with my cousin Taylor and my cousins
Seth and my cousin Aiden with my brother Elie
and Helgi. I like to play with them.
By Cole Greig
At Christmas time my favorite thing to
do is making cookies with my family and
eating them. A day before Christmas I go to my
Grandmas place and have Christmas at
my house. At Grandmas place we play

At Christmas time my favorite thing to do is
put up the Christmas tree. One time, I had my
hot wheels and put the track through the
Christmas tree a few weeks before Christmas.
This year we are having our cousins come for
Christmas. Merry Christmas.
By Jessica Gaiser
At Christmas time my favorite thing I do
is spend time with my family. We go to my
Grandma and Grandpas houses. We do it on
Christmas Eve. We play games, we go sledding
and we play with our cousins. We have fun.
By Josh Cameron
I like Christmas because it is Jesus Christs
birthday. I celebrate his birthday because he
died on the cross to forgive our sins. I cel-
ebrate his birthday by having a big feast with
my family.
By Tyler Saler
At Christmas time favorite things to do are
playing a game where we put on mittens and
try to open the presents. Who ever gets a six
with dice will get to try to open the presents
and they get what ever is in it. It is very fun
to play but its very hard. We put on at least
ten layers of wrapping paper. On the last
row there is usually duct tape or painters
tape. It is the best game in the world. I also
really like to see my family because I dont
get to see all my family often.
My Christmas Favourites

Also sitting by the fire being toasty warm
in the morning. The last thing I enjoy is hot
cocoa. My mom makes the best hot cocoa.

have a scavenger hunt for presents. My
Grandma and Popa make letters on paper. My
paper would say M. Then we go look around
that area on Christmas day. They hide the
presents in unusual places.
By Catarina Onyshko
At Christmas time my favorite thing I do is
getting the Christmas tree. We get it
from these people who live on a farm. My
family and I go chop down the tree. My sister,
brother and I stay at their house while my

Archie comics or play with Barbies. My other
favorite is decorating the Christmas tree.
We have a whole bunch of decorations. My

plug in the lights and go to sleep.

hristmas means
something diferent
to everybody. Everyone
has their own tradi-
tions and memories of
the holiday, whether it
is making the perfect
snowman or the per-
fect gingerbread house.
For some people the
best memories are the
ones spent skidooing
with their friends or for
some, its snowboard-
ing on fresh powder in
the mountains. When
asked what my favou-
rite holiday is, I always
answer with no hesita-
tion, Christmas. I love
the thought of curl-
ing up with a big blan-
ket, watching the pufy
snowfakes fall from
the sky, as if to almost
look like glitter. I love
the smell of my Moms
homemade cookies
wafting through the air.
Walking into the living
room and seeing your
Christmas tree all lit up
is the kind of excitement
that I like the most. I love
all the curiosity Christ-
mas brings when seeing
the gifts under your tree.
Tese are the things that
I love about Christmas
and look forward to ev-
ery year. My family has
their typical traditions,
every Christmas Eve
we always have a big
get-together and have
the most amazing din-
ner. My Mama makes it
the best; the smell when
you walk into the kitch-
en is like no other smell.
Te turkey and the gravy
and the stuf ng and
the meatballs, so much
food! I could never
choose a favourite. But,
my Nanas mashed po-
tatoes are truly the best.
Only my family knows
the secret recipe to
making these mashed
potatoes famous. All
my cousins know that
Nanas mashed potatoes
are one of a kind and
we wouldnt dare tell
a soul what the secret
was. Spending time with
my cousins and having
my family all together
means a lot to me. Hav-
ing those memories that
youll remember forever
is so special. As crazy
as they are, I cant get
enough of them. Even
though some of my rela-
tives live so far away,
when them come home
we somehow all connect
like theyd never left and
after Christmas holidays
is over, its nearly boring
without them. Te day
after Christmas, I fnd,
is one of those satisfying
days when youre com-
pletely and utterly ex-
hausted and you think
to yourself Man, Im so
glad theres no school
tomorrow.
What Christmas Means to Me
Wishing you
and yours
much joy and
happiness
at this very
festive time
of the year.
Thank you for your
patronage in 2011.
I look forward to
serving all of your
Real Estate needs
in 2012.
