Weekly Advent Review: The Advent wreath means coming a special holiday in which we are looking forward to at Christmas. Many people looked for the coming of Jesus thousands of years ago. Our second Sunday, was about the shepherds who shared the message of hope of the birth of the Christ child. The angels had appeared to them while they were watching their flock by night in the field. Our third Sunday, was about the angels who shared peace, and how we can share good words with others. Last week, we talked about the star and how we can shine in the world around us showing the love of Jesus that in is our hearts. Today, we are

going to hear about Baby Jesus and why he came to earth born of the Virgin Mary.

Directions for the teacher: Select a Mary and Joseph to help with the story. They will have simple speaking parts with very little drama in role play. The teacher will actually tell the story using the puppet. Wrap the blue and brown head piece over Joseph and Mary. Hide the Baby until ready to use. Say: Callie Cow will be telling the story today. Bible Story: It has been such a long boring day. Mr. Zachariah did not bring us the normal amount of food to eat like he usually does. I am really getting kind of hungry. And this water is so hot that my tongue feels dry just looking at it. I think I will lie down here and take a nap. (Yawns) These pesky nats are such a nuisance! Get away you old nats.mooooooooo! Maybe, that will scare you! Ouch! (Pause) That stung! I cant get any rest for anything around this place. All those old sheep and now that newest donkey are really getting on my nerves. (Pause) Ouch! You pesky little things. Bother! How on earth can a tiny nat be such a bother? (Yawns) Oh I am tired.if only I can get some sleep. Last night was so bad due to that new calf that was born. Why does everybody ew and ah over such a small calf. Now look at me. I have a handsome coat.is shines..and my ears are so..well you knowcuteand I have a hugh belly that is firm and strong and these legs.why they could outrun any old sheep. (Yawns) What time is it? (Look at your wrist watch) It is almost midnight (Pause).

What on earth is all that noise I hear? Sounds like Mr. Zachariah, talking, but WHO is he talking to? Hmmm! I hope it is not any more of those noisy boarders that he takes in. You would think it was a zoo here. But you know I really never heard that word before.but is must be something important for him to come out this late at night. What! He is sending out some people to sleep with us. Phew wee! I forgot to take my bath this morning. Here let me get some of this hay and rub over my coat. (Rubs arm) There that will do! Oh myit is a woman and man. Who are they, and why are they coming out here. (Mary and Joseph enter and read these parts) Mary: Joseph? Joseph: What Mary? Mary: Is this where we will be sleeping? Joseph: Yes, Mary. Mary: Joseph? Joseph: Yes, Mary. Mary: It does not smell too nice out here. Joseph: I know, Mary. Mary: I think the baby is ready to be born. Joseph: Ok. Mary, let me help you. (Mary & Joseph exit)

What on earth did I just hear (Shakes puppet head back and forth) Maybe, I was hearing things. A babyborn here? In a barn? Wow! Why did Mr. Zachariah send them out here when this lady is having a baby. She should have gone to the hospital. But then that is miles away. This will make the news. Mooooooooo(Pause) What is that noise? It sounds like crying.maybe it is the new baby. (Mary & Joseph enter with Baby Jesus and sit in two chairs provided) Mary: Isnt he so sweet? Joseph: Yes, Mary, he is. Mary: Wrap him good ok? Joseph; Yes, Mary, I will. Mary: Do you think he is ok? Joseph: Yes, Mary he seems ok. Mary: His name is Jesus. Joseph: Yes, He will be called Jesus. Mary: He will save people. Joseph: Yes, he will save all people who come to Him. Mary: I am tired. Joseph: Let us get some rest. Mary: Thank you, Joseph. (Mary and Joseph exit)

That was some news, wasnt it kids? Wow! I think I will take a rest myself, now after all that. Mooooooooo! Good night. See you around, Moooooooooo! (Put puppet out of sight) Teacher: Jesus left heaven and all its loveliness to come to earth because it was the will of the Father in heaven. He came to save people from their sins. Jesus grew up like you boys and girls and ate real food, played, went to school and obeyed his parents. I hope you obey your mom or dad and teacher, too! When Jesus was a young boy, he went to the temple with his parents. Once, he went into the temple and taught the people about the things of God. His parents looked and looked for Jesus and could not find him. Mary was worried until she found him in the temple. When Jesus became a grown man, he began helping people. He made the blind to see, the lame to walk, and healed people of many kinds of sicknesses. Leaders in the town did not like all that they heard about Jesus, because they were afraid he would become too important and take away their place in leadership. They told some people to tell lies about him and then had him crucified on a cross. He died and was buried, but rose again after three days. Many people saw Jesus after he arose from the grave, and they were very surprised. Jesus has returned to heaven and is preparing a place for all those who confess their sins and believed God to forgive them. John 3:16 tells us, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. I John 1:9 also tells us that If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we want to go to heaven when Jesus returns

someday we must confess our sins and His Word tells us He WILL forgive us. We can trust in Him to keep His Word. Jesus will never fails us.

Questions for Discussion 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. How can we know that Jesus forgives us? What must we do to be forgiven? When will Jesus return to take us to heaven? What should we do while we wait for Him to come for us? How can we share this news with others?

Hay for Baby Jesus - Memory Verse Game Write the verse on the board for all so they can read it. Recite the verse, many times. Each time you say it, stop and give to several kids of a single piece of hay. Repeat this until all have a piece of hay. Then do this backwards having the kids place the piece of hay on a manger that you will provide for them. You can draw this on a poster board and they can tape it to the sheet. They will enjoy doing this and receiving their piece of hay. Finally, say the verse all together and turn the board around so they cannot see it.
