Overall Reflection of the Pertinent points of Slide Presentation

Slide 1 The video has the title of Reduced Logging Using the Mono-cable System. It is produced in February 2011 by The Nature Conservancy, Responsible Asian Forestry and Trade (RAFT), United States of America. Generally, the video shows that the use of mono-cable to drag logs out of the forest during timber harvesting process is an old technology which has made a comeback. This old technology has made new again due to its advantage of reducing impact logging on the forest environment.

Slide 2 Indonesia stretching along the equator has the climate of tropical rainforest. The tropical rainforest of Kalimantan in Borneo. The trees in this rainforest are dominant elements making up the natural inhabitants. They provide shelter and support the life of all forest inhabitants. On the other hand, the trees are also of commercial important to the Indonesian economy. These trees are of high value to the economy of Kalimantan and Indonesia. Therefore the tropical rainforest is a rich source of timber for Indonesian economy

Slide 3 Over the past years, Indonesia has watched a three million hectares of land destruction due to the various causes including illegal logging, mining,

deforestation and forest degradation.

These activities involved the use of

technology that has caused forest damage. Activities of logging damage the forest eco-system For example using bulldozers in the timber harvesting process caused forest damage.

Slide 4 Through the Responsible Asian Forestry and Trade (RAFT), the Nature Conservancy and Companies work to log Borneos forest to create sustainable forest environment. The Nature Conservancy Force is committed to save the Indonesian forest by reducing deforestation and forest degradation.

Slide 5 The main aim of the RAFT program is to help nature conservancy that is to sustain the environment and maintaining stable and healthy ecosystem. Therefore the nature conservancy force developed is a collaboration programme of sustainable forest between Indonesian Government and the American Government. The introduction of using mono-cable system in the logging during the timber harvesting helps to reduce soil damage and water contamination.

Slide 6 The technique of mono-cable system was developed to reduce the impact of logging. The machine used in applying this simple technology works as a towering machine to drag the logs out of the forest to the logging

deck near the roadside or river for transportation. using bulldozers.

The impact of using

mono-cable on the forest damage is small as compared to the impact of

Slide 7 The using of bulldozers in the timber harvesting process has many negative impacts on the eco-system of the forest. One example of the negative impacts is that the tracks leftover by the bulldozers to transfer the logs five significant destruction to the soil. Damage soil also decreasing the quality of fresh water and river water. Standing trees along the dragging tracks are also displaced as the bulldozer drags the logs. Slide 8 Beside of its advantage of reducing forest damage, using mono-cable system requires more labour. Using the bulldozer requires two highly paid operators. Whereas by using mono-cable system requires five to six operators. Therefore, using mono-cable system has employment benefits for local, non-skilled workers.

Slide 9 The use of bulldozers in timber harvesting process has caused a lot of destructions to the forest environment like soil damage, deforestation and water contamination. To sustain the forest environment, mon-cable is introduced which is an old technology which reduce forest damage. Thus the mono-cable has made a comeback and the technology is new again

Slide 10

The old technology of mono-cable gives less damage to the forest soil and as a result tree species will remain standing with their life supporting function within the stable and healthy eco-system. Using mono-cable allows more standing trees and allow logging to continue with least forest damage. Thus the timber harvesting will avoids destructions due to logging.

Slide 11 The use of mono-cable system in logging during the timber harvesting will reduce forest damage and therefore the tropical rainforest of Indonesia. it will sustain the forest environment. The sustainable environment maintain the beautiful scenery of Thus, the old technology which has become new again has not only benefit to the economy but also it will also make the future generation enjoy the magnificent and beautiful tropical rainforest of Indonesia.

Slide 12 Thank you for your attention. I hope my presentation has benefited all of you here by knowing how important to apply the suitable technology to achieve sustainable environment.
