I See Something You Dont See. What is it? - (15 minutes)


The students will listen as the ALT gives hints about something either inside the classroom or within view from the classroom. The goal of the students is to try to identify the object the ALT can see. The ALT will give a very easy demonstration. The ALT will write, What is it? on the board and have the class practice the sentence a few times. Today, the ALT will give clues very quickly. EXAMPLE- (quickly) ALT) I see something white and black. What is it? (no response). It is a circle. (ALT draws the shape on the board - no response). I look at this when I want to see the time. Its right there! (pointing at the clock) Student) the clock? ALT) Yes!! Now the ALT will play another round with a very easy object. All of the language used to describe the object will be very simple. And, with each hint, the ALT should ask the class, What is it? If there are any volunteers who would like to participate as the person giving hints, the ALT will invite them to come to the front of the class. The purpose of this activity is for the students to practice their listening skills by using their critical thinking skills to understand hints while trying to solve a problem.

SPEAKING EXERCISE:

Whats in the bag? (10 minutes)


The ALT will hold up a bag for all of the students to see. The students can ask any question about the item in bag as long as the question is not, Whats in the bag? The ALT will answer whatever question the students answer. If a student is able to guess what is in the bag, they either get to keep the item or they win a prize. Example (ALT making a thinking gesture)ALT) Whats in the bag? (Acting like a student asked the question) What color is it? Its black and white. (The ALT will write black and white on the board.) (Acting like a student asked the question) How big is it? Its about this big. (makes a gesture) What shape is it? Its this shape. And so on Eventually the ALT will reveal the example item a stuffed penguin! Now, it is time to play the game The ALT again holds up the bag and says, Whats in the bag? As the students ask questions, the ALT repeats all of their questions with correct English. The ALT also writes the information revealed by their questions on the board. When a

The purpose of this activity is for the students to be challenged to think and analyze information while practicing their speaking skills in front of their peers in an exciting activity.

The ALT and the class will practice todays target sentence together. The ALT will write the sentence on the board and ask the students to open their textbooks to page 48. The ALT will explain that todays target sentence is used when you are making a phone call and someone other than the person you want to speak to answers. The class will read the phone conversation with the ALT and the ALT will elicit the meaning of the text from the students. The ALT will insert different names into the text to personalize the reading for the class. Then the ALT and the class will look at the items in the Tool Box. The ALT and the class will practice the English several times. The ALT will have a few mock conversations with some volunteer students. The purpose of this activity is for the students to practice a typical phone conversation in English while having the chance to hear a native speaker use the most common phrases used.

END (15 minutes)

Creating a phone conversation - (10 minutes)


Each student will receive worksheet from the ALT. The students will fill in the blanks of a phone conversation with their own words. The ALT will encourage them to be very creative. After the students have finished, the students will share their phone conversations with the class. If there are any volunteer students, the ALT will join them in a role play of the students conversation. The purpose of this activity is to give the students practice expressing their own creative thoughts in writing by creating an original phone conversation.

Open Discussion or Phone Conversation Presentations (5 minutes)


The ALT will ask the students some very basic questions about current events or hot topics in the world today. The ALT will try to elicit the students feelings about a variety of issues. At any time, the students may ask the ALT questions at this time as well. The purpose of this activity is to encourage the students to express their opinions about current issues in the world or about any topic they wish to discuss.
