Organisation of the Workshop Room
Think about how you would like to organise the room for your presentation. You may like to discuss this with the Roll Call teacher prior to beginning the workshop. Some options: - Normal classroom arrangement, semi-circle of tables and chairs, circle of tables and chairs, groups of tables and chairs If you do rearrange the room, remember to arrange the room back to how it was before you leave. Make sure the computer, data projector and speakers are switched on and ready to go at the before you start the workshop.

Introduction:
Today we are going to explore an issue that relates to being a good digital citizen which means participating safely with digital technology including things like computers, mobile phones and the internet. Being a good digital citizen is important whether you are at home, work or school. We are focusing on the issue of Online Transactions

Ask staff to assist with the organisation of students

Make sure the computer, data projector and speakers are switched on. Ask staff to login to Internet.

Explanation:
Shopping, purchasing products, paying bills and doing our banking online has become a normal part of life for many people. The main reason for this is probably convenience, given that you can access these services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Many of us know that there are risks in conducting our business online but its a risk we are willing to take and we have faith in the security of the sites we deal with. Today we are going to look at the positives and the possible pitfalls of online transactions and what measures we can take to protect ourselves, our products and our money.

Activity 1: Online Video & Discussion


Lets have a look at the video Secure Websites which talks about what we need to look out for when we are shopping online. Lets discuss the following questions in relation to the video 1) 2) 3) 4) Do you know of anyone who this has happened to? What a happened? Did they lose any money through this process? What measure could you take to protect your online transactions? Have this website ready to go. Also check the sound at the beginning of the lesson

Ask staff to assist with keeping students on task and using questions to get relevant responses.

Activity 2: Scams on Budd:e


Lets look at some other issues with Online Scams - Go to Budd:e link - Click on DEMO - Click on TOOB - Click on your topic (TRANSACTING) - Click on PLAY Can you think of an occasion where you think a product for purchase online sounded too good to be tru? Talk about this with the person next to you (2 mins) Distribute GUFF handout which has some tips and further information about avoiding online scams.
