!!!.Procedures:
A. Notivation:
Let's play a game called Draw it"
Directions:
1. Form 2 groups of S students.
2. Each group member will take turns in making their team members guess the fractional part
being asked drawn from the teacher's xbox.
3. The team member who will make his team mates guess the right answer should illustrate
the fractional part shown in the paper strip he picked.
4. His team members, instead of stating the obvious should draw back the right answer but it
should be on the reduced form.
S. This is a race to S draw it game. First team who gets S right answers first wins the game.
B. Review:
1. Review the rule in Adding/Subtracting Similar Fraction.
Rule in Adding/Subtracting Similar Fraction:
OTo add or subtract similar fractions, add or subtract their numerators and copy the
common denominator, and reduce the answer to lowest term.
2. Recall that a Prime Number can be divided evenly only by 1 or itself. And it must be a
whole number greater than 1. !n addition, Factors are the numbers you multiply together to
get another number for example: 2 x 3 =6, 2 and 3 are the factors of 6.
3. Recall characteristics of similar fractions then define dissimilar fractions.
C. Developmental Activities:
1. Present illustrative examples.
2. Show paper strips divided into fractional parts so the class can visualize the addition and
subtraction of dissimilar fractions.
3. !ntroduce:
Rule in Adding/Subtracting Dissimilar Fraction
4Change the fractions into similar fraction by getting the LCD or least common
denominator through the LCN or Prime Factor method.
4Add or subtract the converted fractions following the rule in adding and subtracting
similar fraction.
4. Discuss how to find the LCD through:
LCN Nethod
Simply list the multiples of each denominator (multiply by 2, 3, 4, etc.) then look for
the common smallest number that appears in each list.
Example: Suppose we wanted to add + + We would find the least common
denominator as follows:
1.First we list the multiples of each denominator.
Nultiples of are 10, 1S, 20, 2S, , 3S, 40...
Nultiples of are 12, 18, 24, , 36, 42, 48...
Nultiples of are , 4S, 60, 7S, 30...
2. Now, when you look at the list of multiples, you can see that is the common smallest
number that appears in each list.
3. Therefore, the least common denominator of , and is .

Prime factor Nethod
1. Write the prime factors for the denominator of each fraction.
Prime factor of S is (S is a prime number)
Prime factorization of is x
Prime factorization of is x
2. Note all prime factors that occur. For each prime factor that occurs, determine in which
denominator occurs the most. Write down the prime factor the number of times it occurs in
that one denominator.
The prime factors that occur are 2, 3, and S.
3. Calculate the LCD of your fractions. To do this, multiply the factors selected in step 2b.
2 x 3 x S = 30, therefore, the LCD of , S is .

S. Rewrite Each Fraction as an Equivalent Fraction
Rule to rewrite a fraction as an equivalent fraction using the LCD says:
A. Divide the LCD by the denominator of the fraction.
B. Nultiple the answer times the numerator of the fraction.
C. Rewrite the fraction using the LCD as the denominator.
Example:
New Numerator = (LCD Denominator) x Numerator
New Denominator = LCD
= {(30 S) x 1}/30 =
= {(30 6} x 1}/30 =
= {(30 1S) x 1}/30 =
6. Performing the Operations on converted fractions
Addition:
1/S + 1/6 + 1/1S = 6/30 + S/30 + 2/30 = 13/30
Subtraction:
1/S 1/6 1/1S = 6/30 S/30 2/30 = 1/30
!v: Evaluation/Assessment:
1. roup the class into 8 and ask for them to come up with a team name.
2. A game called Fastest Fingers" will be played by the class, emerging winners will be given a
prize.
Fastest Fingers Rules of the Came:
O We will give each group a set of pen and paper for them to write their answers.
O The teams should answer the problem read aloud by the teacher/game.
O The group who raises the correct answer first, gets the point.
O !t is a bestofS game wherein winning team will automatically get a 100 on their
assignment no. 1 given before the class ends.
v. Assignment:
1. Answer Exercise 1.1S pages 6668.
2. Study Nultiplication and Division of Fractions.
