Discipline Investigation Report Outline and Format OUTLINE: This report contains several parts (in one Word

Document): 1. Executive Memo (using memo format) 900-1000 words Introduction of the DI assignment Summary of the interview Summary of the document 2. Document Analysis Report: 1200 words Introduction to the document Analysis of document Two-paragraph Conclusions: 1st paragraph for the interview and 2nd paragraph, the document. 3. Appendix 1 copy of 1 document analyzed 4. Appendix 2 List of interview questions Notes: Be sure you use Times Roman font size 12 point; 1 in margins, single spacing with double spacing between paragraphs. Set up page numbers using the footer. See next pages for an example.

Mention that the detailed document analysis report, the actual documents and a list of interview questions can be found in the appendices. INTERVIEW SUMMARY (Type the words INTERVIEW SUMMARY here, centered and bold) 4-5 paragraphs - this section should talk about the interview. Write 23 well-organized paragraphs summarizing what you learned from this person. Give enough detail but not too much. Do not give the name of the person or the company, but you can describe the company in general terms. DOCUMENT ANALYSIS: (Type the document name here) Write a short paragraph (giving background informationwho wrote the document, purpose, audience, context.) (In this section, you may use the follow order for your analysisthat is, Content, Style and tone, Organization, Rhetorical Appeals (at least 1), followed by Development of ideas (at least 2-3), which are the rhetorical strategies.) Content Type of genre, brief description of the contents what was the topic and main points. Style and tone Formal or informal; use of jargon and/or terminology Organization How is the document put together, what are the sections, use of special formats, use of charts and graphs Rhetorical Appeals Use of logos (logic), pathos (emotion), ethos (establishing authority or credibility or the writer)

Development of ideas Use of narration/description, examples, definitions, compare and contrast, process analysis, division/classification, cause and effect a paragraph for each strategy explain how the strategy is used, giving examples (can be paraphrased rather than quoted). CONCLUSIONS (The conclusions should contain two paragraphs: 1 from your interview and the other, document.) Use quotes from the interview and short samples from the document to support your conclusions
