NUMERACY LINEAR EQUATIONS

Round 1 That Dag-gum Graphing Calculator Name Home Group PART 1 Put points into the graphing calculator. Make sure you clear the points first by pressing 2ND + 4 ENTER (ClrAllLists) X 2.5 2.6 3.4 1.3 1.6 3.8 11.6 6.4 8.3 Y 147 130 130 114 138 162 208 178 210

Press STAT Press ENTER (1: Edit) Enter points into L1 (x) and L2 (y)

PART 2 Choose an appropriate WINDOW Xmin: should be a little bit smaller than your smallest x-value. Xmax: should be a little bit larger than your largest x-value. Ymin: should be a little bit smaller than your smallest y-value. Ymax: should be a little bit larger than your largest y-value. Xscl and Yscl by what scale should your x and y axes be? What number would you count by? (1, 2, 5, 10, .5?) Once you have chosen your window, press graph and make sure you can see all 9 points. PART 3 Find the regression line (aka line of best fit) Press STAT (Calc) 8 (LinReg a+bx) ENTER
(you may need to press ENTER twice)

Write down your values for a and b. Round to 3 or 4 decimal places for best accuracy.

PART 4 Graph the regression line Press Y= Type in your equation in the form y = a + bx, using your values from part 3 for a and b. PART 5 Show a teacher and get a stamp.

PART 6 Write down any of this in your toolkit that you think you might forget. Use the green pages in the back of the toolkit called Calculator Help PART 7 Practice what you have just done by doing steps 1-5 for the tables on the posters in the front of the room. Get a stamp from a teacher for each problem you complete. POSTER #1 POSTER #2
