The language of the interview can be adopted to the ability or educational level of the person interviewed and as such misinterpretations can be avoided. DEMeRITS -It is a very expensive method -There remains the possibility of being biased -This is relatively more time consuming -Interviewing at times may also introduce systematic errors -Effective interview pre-supposes proper rapport with respondents that would facilitate free and frank responses

Telephone Interview The method of collecting interview consists in contacting respondents through telephone. It is not a very widely used method but, plays an important part in industrial surveys particularly in developed regions. MERITS -It is more flexible in comparison to other methods -It is faster than other methods -It is cheaper than personal interviewing -Recall is easy, Call backs are simple and economical -Replies can be recorded without causing embarrassment to respondents -No field staff is required DEMERITS -Little time is given to respondents -For considered answers, interview period is not likely to exceed 5 mins in most cases -Surveys is limited to respondents who have telephonic facilities -It is not suited for intensive surveys -Possibility of being biased is relatively more -Geographical coverage may get restricted due to cost considerations (budget kum ho toh)

COLLECTION OF DATA THROUGH QUESTIONAIRE This method of data collection is quite popular particularly in case of big enquiries. It is being adopted by many private individuals, research workers, pvt and pub organizations and even by the Govt. The questionnaire is mailed to the respondents who are expected to read and understand the question to write down the reply in the space meant for the purpose

of the data collection. MERITS -The cost is low even when the reverse is large and widely spread geographically -It is free from being biased in the interview, answers are in the respondents own words -Respondents have enough time to give well thought answers -Respondents who are not easily approachable can also be reached conveniently -Large samples can me made use of and thus the results can be made more dependable and reliable. DEMERITS -It can be used only when respondents are educated and co-operative -The control f the questionnaire may be lost once it is set -This method is likely to be the slowest of all methods of data collection -There exists the possibilities of ambiguous replies all together to certain questions -It is difficult to know whether respondents are being truly represented
