COURSE CALENDAR Spring 2012

This hands on course is offered as an introduction to classic etching techniques with a focus on traditional copper etching. Participants will receive detailed instruction on image and material preparation, the etching process, and traditional printing with a professional manual press. The course will run seven classes, in which time participants will see demonstrations, and participate in active studio time under the supervision of a professional instructor. Suitable for Beginners as an introduction to Etching and the Print Studio Course Fee: $250.00 + tax Additional $25 in class fee for additional course materials 8 Participants Maximum Daemon Baldwin is a full-time graphic designer and part-time artist with an MFA in printmaking. A move to Vancouver 6 years ago has provided the community foundation and resources to continue the pursuit of his dream of becoming a fulltime artist and part-time designer.

Learn to make linocut prints. Instruction takes the students through planning to transferring an image to the block, carving and printing the image. Learn a simple two colour block printing method. Opportunity is also available for intermediate and advanced students to work with reduction linocut and other advanced techniques. Everyone can carve, print and edition a plate. Course Fee: $250.00 + tax Additional $25 in class fee for additional course materials 6 Participants Maximum Carolyn Mount is a printmaker whose recent body of work has focused on large reductive linocuts. These works are award winning and have been shown across the country. Carolyn has been a member at Dundarave for five years and her work has been shown internationally.

Both the novice and advanced printmaker will find DPW printmaking classes that accommodate and challenge their skill level. Courses are held throughout the year on Tuesday evenings, 7 to 10 pm. (unless otherwise noted) Class sizes are kept to a minimum in order to facilitate individual instruction.

Withdrawals: With notice of more than two weeks, DPW will refund fees minus and administrative fee of $30. With less than two weeks notice, DPW will refund fees minus an administrative fee of $50. Cancellations: Course may occasionally be cancelled due to insufficient enrolment or other unforeseen reasons. Should DPW cancel a course, a full refund or credit for another course will be issued.

This course will give students an oppourtunity to futher develop their etching skills with instruction, demonstrations, and studio time. We will focus on tonal work, and students will be introduced to colour printing using a variety of inking techniques. Suitable for students with a basic background in etching or for those who wish to refresh their skills. Course Fee: $250.00 + tax Additional $25 in class fee for additional course materials 8 Participants Maximum After completing her print making BFA in Scotland Katie Dey moved to Vancouver, where she trained as a Master Printer at New Leaf Editions, a collaborative print studio, specialising in etching and relief printing. Over the years, Katie has printed for many renowned Canadian artists, taught various classes in printmaking and continues to make prints of her own. She is currently a part time printmaking technician at Capilano College and a full time Mum.

SUMMER 2012 LINE UP These courses are not yet confirmed. In March, an updated brochure will be available. Photo Based Etching with Daemon Baldwin Learn to etch photo based imagery into copper using home brewed methods. No longer will you feel the need for a darkroom, fancy exposure unit, or any other specificuse and expensive equipment. It all starts with your home computer, Photoshop usage and quickly moves to the etching bath. Advanced, 10 maximum Note: Students must have basic computer skills in Photoshop and understand Auquatinting with copper. Cyanotype Work Shop (Blue Photo Print) A one-day intensive for amateur photographers. Take any image and make a negative using a basic photo software and a home printer. With your negative you will create a cyanotype on archival paper. This technique uses non-toxic powders, water and the sun to make wonderful images. Additional instruction in how to alter the colouring of the cyanotype will be included.
