Question 1:

I. A top-down processing by an individual has created a context effect: At the very beginning when Dan finds an empty box of pregnancy test equipment, he started to suspect his two daughters. His perception was guided by his knowledge that says that his two daughters are getting matured and he was not expecting his wife to be pregnant. II. Stereotype seemed to exist: Dan warned Janas (Dans younger daughter) boyfriend not to give her any alcoholic beverage or a joint because Dan had a general idea that all the young boys are likely to take advantage when their girlfriends are drunk. IV. Sensory adaptation took place to an individual after repeated exposure: When Carters wife was leaving him, he did not become tensed or too much emotional. As he did not have a wonderful relation with his wife and she was leaving him often, he had a sensory adaptation that helped him to take it easy. VI. A cognitive dissonance seemed to exist: Both Carter and Alex knew that they are not perfect for each other. But still they had build up a relationship. Alex promised his father that she would share everything with him. She knew that Dan will not take Carter easily as a boyfriend of his daughter. But still Alex couldnt stop her to fall in love with Carter. VII. A hostile aggression and an instrumental aggression took place: Hostile Aggression: Dan followed Carter and found his daughter dating with Carter. Dan got angry and punched Carter on his face. This was a hostile aggression. Instrumental Aggression: When Dan and Carter was fired by Mark, Carter wanted to call Teddy K. and tell him that Mark single handedly drove his most profitable magazine, his flagship, right to the ground. This is an example of Instrumental Aggression. VIII. Retrieval cues helped an individual to bring in the information or stimulus: At the very first meeting at Sports Americas office, Carter told that he wanted to increase the ad pages by 20 percent but was not confident enough. When an employee asked, How? that question helped Carter as retrieval cues and eventually he came up with the answer synergy.

Question 2:

1) Coercive power: After the addressing of Teddy K, Mark Steckle came to Dans office and fired both Dan and Carter. After a while he withheld the punishment because of some confusion. Both firing them and again withholding the punishment are examples of Marks Coercive power.

2) Legitimate power: After taking over, Teddy K. wanted to open a computer section in sports America. He wanted to use the resources of the organization as has the position in the formal hierarchy of the organization.

3) Connection power: At the beginning Mark Steckle told his colleagues that Teddy K. took over Waterman publishing and asked him personally to work as the marketing head of the magazine section. So Carter became excited and asked Mark to take him with. Here Mark has the connection power over Carter as he has a connection with an influential person like Teddy K.

4) Expert power: When Dan and Carter went to Kalbs office for ads, Carter was following Dans lead though Dan did not have any formal power over Carter and Carter was still Dans boss. It was because of Dans superior ability, knowledge, skills and expertise in ad selling. In this case Dan had an expert power over Carter.
