Making Good Notes as an Aid to Thinking and Learning

Making good notes during lessons can help you remain attentive instead of being easily distracted.

The Standard/ Criteria for Grading Required of the Student

1 The students ability to define clearly the problem to be tackled or the purpose of the work. The thoroughness with which the work was tackled in relation to the time available, and the planning of the work. The accuracy with which information is recorded. The students ability to evaluate published work, to make original observations, to record and analyse data (as appropriate), to argue logically, and to draw valid conclusions. The students ability to relate personal observations and findings to the published work of others. The students ability to select relevant material, reject what is irrelevant, and convey the results of this special study in a well-written composition. A good student will write a clear, concise, considered, critical, balanced, wellorganised and well-presented report. In contrast, an incomplete, opinionated, superficial or uncritical composition, with inadequate reference to relevant sources of information, will be recognised as lacking structure.

How to Improve your Writing

1. Prefer a short word to a long word unless the long word will serve your purpose better. Use SIMPLE ENGLISH. 2 . Make sure that you understand the meaning of the words you use, so that you can use them correctly. 3. Do not write words in inverted commas (quotes) unnecessarily. Instead, choose words that convey your meaning precisely. 4. Avoid abbreviations, contractions and acronyms if you can.
