Roto-Jet Rotary Jetting Tool

BJ's unique rotary jetting technology represents a major advance in the economical removal of downhole deposits that impede well productivity. The Roto-Jet tool introduces stress cycling to the deposit by accurately controlling rotational speed of the jetting nozzle. With each pass of a jetstream, local tensile stress is induced in the scale as surface cracks are briefly pressurized. This stress cycling occurs several times each second, causing the brittle scale to shatter into small particles which are easily transported to surface. The rotating action of the Roto-Jet tool offers full wellbore coverage. This feature, in conjunction with selected nozzle configurations, allows the Roto-Jet tool to clear its own path through bridges and restrictions. The net result is single-pass cleaning from surface to total depth. A rotating tool permits 360-degree coverage using only two jets designed for maximum cleaning efficiency. Nozzle configurations are available to suit the range of deposits and well conditions encountered. Even the hardest scales, such as silicates and barium sulphate composites, can be removed by the Roto-Jet tool. Performance can be further enhanced when the tool is combined with BJ's line of chemical scale dissolvers. This combination of chemical attack and stress cycling, exclusive to treatments performed with Roto-Jet technology, works synergistically to maximize scale dissolution and removal. This is why the Roto-Jet tool was designed to handle even the most aggressive treatment fluids and to accommodate bottom hole temperatures as high as 392F (200C). The most important aspect of this tool is that the rotational speed is not a function of flow rate or bottom hole temperature. This means the required critical speed can be achieved regardless of the pumping rate. Jet selection is based on the fluid pump rate and completion geometry. BJ's proprietary coiled tubing software, CIRCA, is used to properly configure the jetting tool and optimize the choice of jet. It is also used to analyze the stand-off performance of various jet profiles and determine flow rates and pressure drops through the Roto-Jet tool.
