PIMG International Conference

On
Transformation and Survival of Business Organisation: Challenges and Opportunities
December 28 - 30, 2011

OVERVIEW OF THE CONFERENCE Over the past century business has become the most dominant institution on the planet. Organizations survive and flourish when employees learn how to become viable and independent in their frameworks of existence; learn how to bond to form teams or business units, and the business units learn how to cooperate with each other to form a higher order entity called the organisation. The implication of the new business paradigm is that organizations need to know how to build adaptable organizations. The failure of the financial system, together with global climate change, global terrorism, and the increased risk of global pandemics is severely testing the flexibility and adaptability of the businesses. If organizations are to collectively survive and prosper, the business leaders must learn how to build strong adaptive cultures. One must put aside the differences and focus on the global common good. The business leaders need to step up to this challenge. There are many profound failures of sound business practices at the root of the economic crisis, and none of them have been adequately addressed. The real problem is not just the myopic focus that almost everyone involved in business has, the real problem is that those in charge of our global financial systems and business organizations see themselves as separate from the rest of society. The 2011 Prestige Conference in Gwalior, India is designed to foster an international exchange of management research and practice among scholars and managers from around the world. The conference theme, " Transformation and Survival of Business Organisation: Challenges and Opportunities " was chosen with a recognition that issues surrounding business organizations and the growing interconnectedness that profoundly shape the context in which organizations face the challenge of transformation and managing survival in the 21st century. This conference is open to a discussion of different perspectives of transformation and survival of business organizations. This theme is meant to be interpreted broadly. CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES Many experts have predicted the end of US dominance of world markets following the current business cycle. Needless to say, this will have strategic significance for the businesses at large as well as for those responsible for country management. The basic objective of the conference is to discuss about the transformation required and expose the participants to the challenges that lie ahead as a result of the shift in the purchasing power of countries in the east and the west. This could best be achieved by bringing together experts from various fields-academics and professionals- to discuss and evaluate the options opening up on a common platform namely, the conference proposed. RATIONALE What other competitors are doing will be a question asked by many. An international conference of the kind envisaged here will certainly go a long way to answer this question. Exchange of opinion is a vital instrument for possible win-win situations. It makes people wiser through a reflective learning process and therefore, and makes way for better decisions so vital for businesses. Accordingly, it makes it imperative that decision makers in businesses as well as those charged with

knowledge dissemination in various professions should make it a point to participate in the conference. WHO SHOULD ATTEND THE CONFERENCE? Faculty members or leaders who wish to develop or enhance programmes of study into international business organisation.

Academics and policy makers seeking to gain a broader insight into the issue of transformation and survival of business.
