Chassis Dimensions

Description

In this document you will find the formulas for calculations of some dimensions e.g.:

Top of frame to ground at centre line of front axle at chassis weight


Top of frame to ground at centre line of front axle at max axle weight
Top of cab roof to ground at chassis weight.

The formulas for the calculations are divided in a front and a rear part and by
configuration and suspension.

The tables are presented on the same page as the formulas for the calculations of the
chassis dimensions.

Chassis Dimensions

Definitions

U = Top of frame to ground at centre line of front axle/centre of front axles.


Uc = U at chassis weight front.
Um = U at max axle weight front.
E = Top of frame to top of tyre at 2nd front axle at parallel max setting.
F = Top of frame to top of tyre at 2nd front axle at max axle weight.

V = Top of frame to ground at centre line of rear axle/bogie


Vc = V at chassis weight rear.
Vm = V at max axle/bogie weight rear.
X = Top of frame to top of tyre at rear drive axle at max axle weight.
XX = Top of frame to top of tyre at tag axle in raised position.
YA = Top of frame to top of tyre at rear drive axle at parallel max setting.
YB = Top of frame to top of tyre at rear tag axle at parallel max setting.

Oc = Top of cab roof to ground at chassis weight

A1 = Spring constant (front)


B1 = Initial value for spring deflection front.
C1 = Top of frame to centre line of front axle (air suspension).
D1 = Drop centre (front)
E1 = Top of frame to centre line of 2nd front axle at parallel max setting.
F1 = Theoretical tyre radius.
G1 = Rolling radius at chassis weight front.
H1 = Rolling radius at max axle weight.
I1 = Spring constant (rear).
J1 = Initial value for spring deflection rear.
K1 = Top of frame to centre line of 1st rear drive axle.
L1 = Rolling radius at chassis weight rear.
M1 = Top of frame to centre line of rear drive axle at parallel max setting (leaf springs).
N1 = Top of frame to centre line of rear drive axle at parallel max setting (air
suspension).
P1 = Top of frame to top of cab roof.
S1 = Top of frame to centre line of tag axle in raised position.
T1 = Top of frame to centre line of tag axle at parallel max setting.
V1 = Tyre radius proportional weight in between G1 and H1.
W1 = Tyre radius proportional weight in between L1 and H1.
X1 = Distance, parallel frame, between centre line of front axle and highest point of cab
roof.
