Instructions: This set of graphic organizers is to help you organize your thoughts for your muckraker assignment. You will have November 21st, 22nd, and 23rd to complete this part of the assignment. When you have completed this, you should have everything you need to start your first draft of the paper. DO NOT LOSE THIS BECAUSE YOU MUST TURN IT IN WITH YOUR FINAL DRAFT.
Title: Introduction Paragraph: Hook: What is a related, interesting way to start this paper? Story? Metaphor? Simile? Question? Background What are some consequences of the problem you are about to describe? Introduce problem What is the problem? Thesis: Why does this problem matter and what can we do to solve it?

Body paragraph one: Here you should describe the problem in great detail.
Topic: What is so terrible about this problem? Who does it affect? Introduce evidence: Why cant society ignore this problem?

Evidence: quotes that reinforce your introduction to the evidence. Remember to show where you got them. For example (kristof, Nytimes 8/16/2011) Analysis of the evidence. Again, how does this evidence show that the problem is something that we must do something to fix. Conclusion: restate your topic sentence in a way that also summarizes your evidence/analysis

Body Paragraph 2: Similar to paragraph one, except here you explain what other people are writing or thinking about the problem. Topic: Are many other people writing and thinking about this problem? Introduce evidence: Who are these people, are they modern day muckrakers? Regular people?

Evidence: What have they written? Suggested? Discussed? Was this an interview you conducted? Was it an article you read?

Analysis: How does that persons experience of the issue relate to the bigger picture? How does it represent the problem as more people will experience it? Conclusion: Does that person have any potential solutions to the problem?

Body Paragraph 3: Conclusion Topic: Restate your issue again as well as a possible solution. Introduce evidence: Has anyone else tried your solution? What makes you think it will work?

Evidence: If someone has tried your solution, how successful were they? If no one has tried it, is there another issue or problem that your solution has worked for?

Analysis: Why is your solution the best way to combat the problem?

Conclusion: Summarize your problem and why it is urgent or necessary to attack the problem.
