Colorectal exam: A flexible scope is inserted to examine the rectum, sigmoid & descending colon for cancer at its earliest stages. It can also detect polyps (benign growths that can progress to cancer if not found early). Chest X-ray: Smokers over the age of 45 should be x-rated for early signs of lung cancer. Self exams: Testicle-to find lumps in their early stages. Skin-to look for signs of changing moles or freckles which are early signs of skin cancer. Oral- to look for cancerous lesions in the mouth.Breast- to find abnormal lumps in their early stages. Bone-mineral test: Bone-mineral density tests are best done by a physician & can show early signs of osteoporosis. Testosterone screening: A simple blood test will reveal low testosterone levels which can cause low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, fatigue & depression. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs): Sexually-active adults who consider themselves at risk for STDs should be screened for syphilis, chlamydia and other STDs.
