I created this little Owl appliqu as a decoration for my first pair of Toms shoes. The finished owl measures just under 2 inches. I turned this little owl into a clippie but it could also be used for a magnet, package decoration, ornament or to make a special one of a kind card. There are many possibilities for this cute creation. To crochet this little owl you will need to know the following stitches: double crochet (dc), slip stitch (sl st), half double crochet (hdc), and single crochet (sc). You will also need to know how to make a picot stitch. So lets get started:
Materials Needed: 1. Small amount of cotton yarn 2. 2- 3/8 buttons for eyes. 3. Felt circle measuring approximately 1-3/8 4. Small alligator clips
With the yarn wrapped around your thumb and index created a loop. Some people call this the magic loop.
Chain 3 [this counts as the first double crochet (dc)], work 5. Crochet hook H eleven dc inside the circle. You 5.0mm now have 12 dc. Join with a slip 6. Beacons 3 in 1 Advanced Glue stitch (sl st) to the first dc, work a single crochet (sc) in the next dc, work 1 half double crochet (hdc) in the same space, chain 2, work one picot, sl st in the next st, work 1 hdc in the next st, ch 2, work one picot, work 1 sc in the same space, sl st in the next st. Fasten off .
the hook. The picot is made to create the two pointy parts on the top. Sew a small beak using dark brown yarn and making a V shape stitch. Sew the two small buttons on each side using embroidery thread. To finish the back of the owl glue down the 1-3/8 inch felt circle. Glue down the alligator clip to the top portion. The small alligator clips I used were purchased from an Etsy seller and they measure 5/8. You will need strong glue as Beacons to insure that the metal adheres to the felt.
