The Louisiana Slave Database

Descriptive discussion: This graph is showing the percentages of slaves by sex over the time. I am able to identify that there were more males slaves than women during slavery. About 55% of men worked for the slave owners while about 40% of women worked , either doing house work or manual labor as well. There is about 10% of slaves missing which there sex is known to be unidentified. With this being said who's to say what sex either male or female had a higher percentage of slaves. This graph shows males but until proven facts that question is unknown to men.

Interpretive discussion: Slavery was such a crucial time in African Americans history. Our people were kidnapped and force to work under the white mans rules and do as they commanded them to do so. The graph shows the differences between slaves by sex and their percentages. Men are seen to be more of the hard workers and stronger than women in this time period. A female is typically seen as a stay home and take care of family type of individual. It can be seen that there were probably more male slaves than women in the fields because men were able to do more heavy duty work than females.

Descriptive discussion: This graph is a figure to show the different categories of human beings and their percentages. This is when age categories were indicated by others and how they seen the individual to be. I see that about 3% of people are missing from this graph and about 80% of the 0 category was at a high stand point. This is saying that several people were having children at this time, were as only 0% of unborn and 1% of nursing were living at this time. The graph also shows the infant rate which was at a low of 1% and the child and young categories were at a low as well. There were about 14% of adults that were identified and the rest were under the old category at about 1%. Interpretive discussion: I truly believe that everyone was identified accordingly as they were seen. The 0 category was at a high of 80% which mean most of the women were pregnant when this study was being done, due to the fact of the low numbers of unborn children and nursing and infants at this time. From the child to old category all have lower percentages than expected. It can be seen that it was a higher percent of 0 because more women were pregnant to bring more individuals into the world so more slaves could be created and the percentages would one day change.

Descriptive discussion: Over time our people were taken from all over the world and from different countries. This graph is a lay out of were the majority of slaves were captured and who were the most known. The graph shows that about 65% of our people were unidentified meaning that they would've came from any region of the world. The next highest percent of people came from the African origin it was roughly around 25% of Africans that were taken at this time. The second one was the Creoles at about 10%, the Caribbean and Anglo and Indians were not really captured to be slaves from what this graph is explaining.

Interpretive discussion: It is seen to be that a lot of slaves went unidentified in this study. However, I am able to see that Africans were the next victims to be taken away from the proof in this graph. Most slaves came from African regions and where all over the world. Creoles were next in line with a percent of 10% while the other origins were all at lower percentages. It can be said that all individuals of any black decent were the ones to be captured. This could be correct due to the fact that Caribbeans , Anglos, Indians all have low percentages of slaves that came from that particular origin. These individuals have little to none of African decent in them so it was base on color and origin if one got taken away or not.

The Louisiana Slave Database

Descriptive discussion: This graph is explaining the runaway factor and the slaves that were involved. This is a brake down of it and how everything went down during this time. At 100% there are missing slaves at the time this study was done which is all of the people. I am able to see that about close to 1% of people was in the has run away category and the other two categories are at a low of 0%. The consorted with a runaway and complained about a runaway has no one in this group which means everyone just went missing from the proof of this graph.

Interpretive discussion: This graph is extremely sad just because our people had to fight for their lives and runaway when their people called them too. This graph shows that the majority of the people went missing either from a death or simply running away. At a high percent of 100 is where all the missing people stood, on the other hand the has run away, consorted with a runaway and complained about a runaway did not count as much in this graph due to the fact they all stood at 1% to about 0%.

Summary and Conclusion: This project was extremely touchy to me as an African American young lady. I was able to see how data was place in the system and how the world seen our people. We were captured from our homelands and forced to work in fields and do what the white man called our people to do. This project opens my eyes to see how ones origin, sex, age, and personal experiences can shape out ones life and the situations that come about. In each graph I was able to identify what was happening during this time period to the slaves and there families. From the graph about sex it was seen that there was a higher percentage of male slaves than female. it is known that males are the more stronger and hard working individual when it comes to labor work rather than a female. Most female slaves were good for cooking cleaning and having babies so there will be a new breed of slaves. The age category of the slaves also varied throughout the data that was given most slaves were women and men and the women were pregnant during this time. There were little children and older people working due to the fact of lack of skills or not strong enough like the normal adult. The proof in this graph shows that most of the adults worked and the rest were at lower percentages. Each slave came from a different origin and come together to work. Most of the people came from African countries and the rest of the people such as the Creoles, Anglo, and Indians had lower people who came from those origins because the white man wanted more of an African base of individuals. Most of the slaves went missing in the proof of the graphs in this project more than 100% of the people either died off or ran for their lives. This study is something that is beneficial for an African American person to be aware of.
