BRAND NAME: INH, Isotamine, Nydrazid DOSAGE: 300mg/day, 15mg/kg ADVERSE REACTIONS
CNS: pyschosis, seizure EENT: visual disturbances GI: druginduced hepatitis, nausea, vomiting NEURO: peripheral neuropathy MISC: fever Advise patient to notify physician promplty if s/sx of hepatitis or peripheral neuritis occur.

Perform mycobacterial studies and susceptibility tests prior to and periodically during therapy to detect possible resistance. If isoniazid overdosage occurs, treatment with pyridoxine is institiuted.

MODE OF ACTIONS
Inhibits mycobacterial cell wall synthesis and interferes with metabolism. Bacteriostatic, bactericidal action. Bacterial action against susceptible organisms. .

INDICATIONS/ CONTRAINDICATIO NS
Indications: First-line therapy of active tuberculosis, in combination with other agents. Prevention of tuberculosis in patients exposed to active disease. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity, acute liver disease, previous hepatitis from isoniazid.

DRUG INTERACTION S
Additive CNS toxicity with other ntitubeculars BCG vaccines may not be effective during isoniazid treatment

HEALTH TEACHINGS
Advise patient to take medication once daily, as indicated, and not to skip doses or douple up on missed dose. Emphasize the importance of continuing therapy even after symptoms have subsided. Caution patient to avoid alcohol during this therapy, as this may increase the risk of hepatotoxicity.
