Andrew CE Primary School Nursery, Term 2: Curriculum Bulletin

Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you all had a restful half term and enjoyed the unexpected sunshine. I dont think the weather will be that kind to us this term, although thats not a problem to the children! Please remember that they will be outside in all weathers as we continue to abide by the saying there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing . Please consider this when dressing your child and it is always a good idea to pop a pair of spare socks in their book bag just in case water or mud creeps inside their welly boots. This term is jam packed full of Christmas excitement so please see the Dates for your Diary section to ensure you dont miss out on anything. I look forward to another term of working together and thank you for your continued support. Miss Jo Davis jdavis@immanuelschoollambeth.org.uk
Early Years Foundation Stage Focus for the Term:

Personal Social E motional D evelopment: We will be encouraging the children to talk about their home and community by discussing different celebrations and the similarities and differences between them. We will continue to support friendships, encourage independence when using the toilet as well as putting on coats and welly boots and give the children strategies for appropriate conflict resolution. Communication Language and Literacy: The children will be provided with many opportunities for name recognition, mark making and letter formation (where appropriate) using a range of sensory resources such as shaving foam, sand and salt. We will be making cards and books and looking at a range of fiction and non-fiction. We will also focus on developing the childrens crucial speaking and listening skills. Problem Solving R easoning and N umeracy: This term we will be developing the childrens understanding of number and numeral recognition. This will be delivered through games, cooking and singing as well as all incidental opportunities that present themselves such as counting the fruit at snack time and laying the table etc. We will also be learning about basic 2D shapes and their properties.

K nowledge and U nderstanding of the W orld: We will be supporting the children to develop their ICT skills this term by using the laptops, cameras and Beebots. We will encourage discussion about significant personal events and enhance the role-play area provision to enable them to recreate their experiences through imaginative play. We will continue to cook weekly and provide daily opportunities for designing and making. Physical D evelopment: The focus on fine motor skills continues in order to equip children for mark making and emergent writing. These skills will be developed through manipulating play dough, using tweezers and numerous other resources that support muscle development and encourage hand-eye coordination. Creative D evelopment: This is a brilliant focus to encourage creativity with all the different art, music and sensory experience associated with each of the celebrations. The children will be using paint, collage, ICT, dance and role-play to explore their creativity.

Please continue to support your child at home by working in unison with us to help them achieve their targets.

Saying goodbye:

Now that your child has settled in, we ask that you say goodbye in the cloakroom and refrain from bringing your child into the Nursery. This will encourage your childs independence which is crucial for their personal development. It is often easier for your child when you leave promptly and they settle much quicker. I know this may be hard (for you!!) but it will be beneficial for your child.

Thanks to all those who donated to the cooking fund last term, allowing us to make all kinds of wonderful food with the children. If we wish to continue weekly cooking this term, I need to again request donations for Term 2. We ask for 1.00 per week or 6.00 for the term. Thank you in advance!!

Cooking money:

The children are now welcome to take books home to share from the class book box once again. I am sorry I had to put a stop to it temporarily but children were taking more that one book at a time and we had hardly any left in class. Please ensure your child takes just ONE book at a time. Thank you.

Reading books:

Junk modelling:
Please can we have your clean recycling to use for junk modelling. If you have any to spare, we would be very grateful!!
Uniform and Jewellery: I have noticed that uniform has started to slip recently and some children have been coming to school in trainers, jewellery, with nail polish and with tattoos. Can I remind you that these things are NOT permitted. If you are unsure of the dress code, please see a member of staff.
